I am pretty much the only member of my family that is into knives. My brother shares some interest but not with the amount of passion that I have.

Are you the only person in your family/friends that loves knives?

If so, how do you deal with being so alone....sniff....sob.

. My father collects swords and Krisses, far more expensive hobby than mine. My great great grandfather was a Kriss maker. A few cousins also collect knives. But then again I'm Indonesian, and cutlery is pretty much in the blood.

One small problem: my girlfriend doesn't like me carrying more than one knife. Aarrgh..

My dad likes knives but I can't convince him there are better steels out there than basic SS. He is learning though. He wants a knife with ATS-34. It's a Gerber though.

My brother-in-law likes knives. He came to visit and showed me his LM Wave and Junglee.

I know a BF member here but I'm not sure he wants to admit to knowing me.

The rest of the people I hang out with in the past and present carrying the basics. Buck, Gerber, SAK, Case, LM, etc.

I'm the only true knut of the family, but my father-in-law could become one if I keep buying him knives for Christmas.

Through the forums, I've been fortunate enough to meet quite a few local (Carolinas) knife people:

Dexter Ewing, DeadinNC, Davidb415, CPRaymond, RJT, Will Fennell, Anthony Lombardo, and Alan Folts (although we don't count him because he lives out in the middle of nowhere!

)

Dexter, Dead, David, CPR, RJT and I get together on a regular basis (probaly 6-8 times a year) for gun and knife shows in the area. We've also done the Blade Show and Southeast Custom Knife Show together. It's always a great time!

Unfortunately I am. My brother likes knives as well but not with the same degree of interest or passion as I.
My wife gets quite bored with my knife talk and so I am relegated to discussing these things online only...."Oh woe is me"

I'm the only knife nut among my friends and family. I bought my girlfriend a Spyderco "Q" and it's pretty sweet. Not strong enough for my kind of use, but it looks really cool. I hope she likes it, and maybe becomes obsessive like me.

Unfortunately, I seem to be alone. Anybody else out here in eastern Contra Costa County?

With the exception of you people,I would have
to say yes.

I'm in Western Contra Costa County - Walt Welch is out on the East side.

Dave, you know about my lawsuit against our Sheriff, right?

Jim

Jim,
I read your thread about the lawsuit back in June, and I've been to your website.

I did notice that Dr. Welch lives in Alamo (a somewhat classier address than mine). I'm hoping that there are a few more BladeForum members out here. There are definitely some knife knuts riding BART; I see a few pocket clips, and one morning there was some guy sharpening his knife while on the train (surprisingly, no one wanted to sit next to him!).

I am the only one in my family afflicted to a
severe degree by the knife "bug". I have gotten my brother into carrying a knife daily, he now has seen the light, and I am
cultivating this. Got Dad a Native that he too carries daily. I get them one at a time.

Yes, I was a lonely knifenut, the only one of my kind, and then I found the Forums, where the Real Nuts hang out. Eureka!

I'm the only one in the family who's like this, although I credit my Dad with getting me started. My co-workers call me a "psycho", jokingly, of course, but when they need stuff cut, they call on the psycho. Knives have been a part of me for the longest time.

Over the years I have had interested friends, but none who qualified as an absolute nut like my peers at Bladeforums. My friend Chris and I were almost arrested twice for illegal knife transporting. I did help my friend Don arrange an up-the-sleeve elastic hold-out mechanism for a kriss-bladed switchblade, and I did provide the bowie knife that my friend Greg used to chase off an assailant, but I was always the ring leader. I guess my friend Joe, who for a time in Junior High carried an ice pick pen ground to a triangular (poniard style) blade contour and coated with an ink-cyanide mixture was my closest peer, but then Joe also had that Man From Uncle gun that he built and so was not primarily a knife nut. He also had the garotte built into his wrist watch and the .25 caliber pen.

I was starting to worry about myself until I found this thread. Unfortunately, no other Knife Knuts I know.

Most of my friends are involved in some type of martial art...but only one of them, who is a cop, knows anything about knives. He prefers tanto blades, and has 2 Benchmades: a Tsunami and a CQC7, and a CRKT KISS. Although he's a lefty, he can operate the right-handed knives better and quicker than I can.

I would have thought I'd know more knife knuts in San Diego, but ... oh, well.
Jim

This forum to me is like "Knife lovers Anonymous". I live in NYC. When I glide out my Mini AFCK or Stryker for small tasks, people look at me like I'm Jeffrey Dahmer. (I do have a few converts, though). After explaining to them that a knife is the oldest tool known to man and you couldn't complete your evening dinner without one, I still get a cocked eyebrow. Go figure!

Al

At one time, I didn't know many fellow knuts, but I have since done several full scale conversions! I'm talking about guys who did not own a knife, that now own 10 or more. Guys that only had pocket knives, but now own Bowie knives and tactical folders.

I've given knives to several family members, but none of them caught the bug later.
My father liked knives, but stuck with basic designs and older brands, so I am a minority of one in my family. My son likes some of the blades I show him, so he may yet become a knut!

Brother-in-law and Father-in-law qualify. The more that I talk about knives, the more nuts there are. I don't know if I got them interested or if they are just coming out of the closet.

Got a knifenut collector buddy at work and we get some odd looks when talking knives at the lunch table.

Yes, I'm the only knifenut I know. I thought I was the only one until I found BF. It has increased my interest and love of knives. My brothers have received knives as presents and like them but have not been converted. Last X-mas my older brother was showing the 4" sheath knife to his grown son who cut two fingers removing it from the sheath. Doah! He's getting married next year and I think a knife would make a great wedding present.
