I've read that in Arkansas, carrying a knife concealed or not concealed, with a blade longer than 3 1/2" in length, is against the law. If so, couldn't the cops just "raid" the show and bust everyone with illegal knives on their tables, or anyone carrying one he bought there?

I wonder why all interested parties, including hunters, etc., don't get organized and pressure the Legislature to repeal that law???

Just wondering.

L.W.

Autos longer than 3 1/2 inches are illegal. Until 1970's bowie knives were actually illegal but Jimmy Lile worked and had that removed from the law books. You can have a hunting knife fine and even a bowie knife if it is in plain sight. Knives do not fall under being able to carry under our concealed weapon permit. Go figure.
Also our security guys are off duties LEO's. They use the pay they get each year to buy a knife. Autos some of the time and other styles as well each year. We try to get our politicians and LEO's here knife friendly. Works well for all of us.

Additionally, the Robinson Center is a private, not a public setting - even though the general public can access it.

Same thing with a shopping mall - which is why you can't protest or solicit there.

Some of you guys have never been to Arkansas. It's quite hospitable...even when you're being arrested for speeding. The AK cops are not about to "bust" any knife show. AK loves tourist dollars. I thought AK has the old "collectible and curio" clause that allows just about anything as long as its not in your pocket as an EDC?

Hi Guys,

The Arkansas show is a great show! Last year was my first year attending and it is a wonderful atmosphere. I got to meet a lot of knifemakers and also got to enjoy the company and kidding of the show attendees. You couldn't ask for a nicer bunch of people. I do have one funny story to tell...

I had an older gentlemen was looking at one of my bowies, he was really interested and asking lots of questions. He then looked at my makers mark which also has the town I'm from, Hettick IL, on it. He kind of gasped, looked at me and said "Why your a Yankee" he promptly set the Bowie down and walked away. When he was gone, I got tickled and started laughing so hard I thought I was going to burst.

Please don't take the story as a negative, it was not meant to be. As I mentioned the people are actually very freindly and accomadating you couldn't ask for a nicer enviroment for a knife show. I just couldn't resist telling the story of the gentleman. As I said the show is a great show and I plan on attending for many years.:)

Some of you guys have never been to Arkansas...

ahem...Arkansas is AR, not AK...

(sorry 'bout the chops-buster, but I couldn't resist!:D)

Got family in NWAR who'd take issue with you placing their beloved Ozarks in Alaska...:D

I'll second Craig's comments about the Arkansas show. A more friendly and welcoming group of people I could not imagine. I enjoyed every single minute of my time there last year. Oh yeah, LOTS of awesome knives too, but it was the people that made it memorable.

Cheers,

Roger
