i've just recently started taking arnis classes with my friend (he's been doing it for a couple years). i've been going for about a month and i'm doing a considerably good job keeping up with the rest of the class (it's not a beginners class) but there are some certain drills that are just too much for my brain to handle, any tips on how to get them down?

I'm a TK, so you'll have to forgive me a minute.

How do you learn?
Sheer repitition?
By analyzing?
Big picture first, then fill in the details?
One detail at a time, until you get the big picture?

For instance, I find it really easy to learn individual moves, I can get movement information from my eyes to my muscles pretty easy. But, I suck at memorization, so long sequences of moves, (Kata, anyo and such) I have to work a lot harder. Arnis tends to have shorter patterns.

Which drills are you having trouble with.
Double sinwali, Redonda X? (These are the same movements done, horzontally and vertically, respectively.

If your having trouble with the way that a drill is being explained, try translating it into a different vocabulary. "Open to close" becomes "fore hand" and vice versa, "close to open" becomes "backhand" and vice versa. Use any vocabulary that works for you.

you can never have enough repetitions of any drill. just rep until you get good at it. knowing the fundamentals also help. drills are usually based on the basics.

have fun!
