Arpad Bojtos work

Arapd now working on two new knives for Atlanta 25th Annual BLADE Show. He will finishing next week. Result will be on his page.

Thanks for posting the link to Arpad's knife pictures. The Hercules knife is the first of 12 knives that Arpad is making for me. Here's the story:

The goddess Hera, determined to make trouble for Hercules, made him lose his mind. In a confused and angry state, he killed his own wife and children.

When he awakened from his "temporary insanity," Hercules was shocked and upset by what he'd done. He prayed to the god Apollo for guidance, and the god's oracle told him he would have to serve Eurystheus, the king of Tiryns and Mycenae, for twelve years, in punishment for the murders.

As part of his sentence, Hercules had to perform twelve Labors over 12 years, feats so difficult that they seemed impossible. Fortunately, Hercules had the help of Hermes and Athena, sympathetic deities who showed up when he really needed help. By the end of these Labors, Hercules was, without a doubt, Greece's greatest hero. The twelve labors were:

Labor 1: The Nemean Lion
Labor 2: The Lernean Hydra
Labor 3: The Hind of Ceryneia
Labor 4: The Erymanthean Boar
Labor 5: The Augean Stables
Labor 6: The Stymphalian Birds
Labor 7: The Cretan Bull
Labor 8: The Horses of Diomedes
Labor 9: The Belt of Hippolyte
Labor 10: Geryon's Cattle
Labor 11: The Apples of the Hesperides
Labor 12: Cerberus

Hercules had to preform one task a year-Arpad will make one "The Labors of Hercules" knife every year for the next eleven years.

Next year: Hercules and the Hydra-can't wait to see what he comes up with!

Jesus... This is going to be a museum, not a collection!

Who else do you collect?

You should post some pics, on this forum or in the Custom forum. That would be much appreciated.

IMO Arpad Bojtos is one of the most multi talented knife artist in the world today.
As mentioned, he uses only the simplest hand tools in creating his knives. Even to the extent that he actually uses a pitch pan to hold his work while carving instead of a vise. He has a very fine pictorial in David Darom's book "Custom Fixed-Blade Knives".

Thanks for the topic. Arpad Bojtos is one of my very favorite... err... I wanted to say knifemakers, except that he's not a knifemaker. Never was a knifemaker, but far beyond, from the very beginning.
