I coated my handle in epoxy a few days ago, and while one side is dry, the other side is still tacky, I think that I didn't mix the epoxy good enough and now have a sticky side, what should I do?

I'd suggest cleaning off the sticky stuff with rubbing alcohol and starting over. Bad mixing might be just one cause BTW. One side might have gotten some contaminant on it and that prevented the epoxy from setting up.

The alcohol will clean it up for you in a flash. Good luck.

Tim, why did you coat the handle with epoxy???

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

well I used a chopped up hatchet handle, and some of the epoxy spilt on the knife handle, and I ignored it by accident, and the next morning, it had this glass like shine, and you couldnt scratch it with your fingernail, so I did one side, which turned out really good, and the next turned out really bad, because I didn't mix the epoxy good enough.

Hi,
how long did you let it set before you decided the one side being sticky was cause you mixed it wrong?

what i mean is, if you have not taken it off yet, dont!

let it set a while longer. Ive worked with epoxy quite a bit, while building my canoe.

Most likley if you mixed it wrong _it would not have cured correctly on either side!

where did you leave it to dry, sounds like you may have different atmospheric conditions on each side, example: sun on one side, drafts, humidity, maybe next to an open window.

I really dont think the difference came from an improper mix.

Hope this helps.

Steve
