I come across this article earlier and thought I would share it with you guys.

One of the recommendations for a mans gift is a Traditional Pocket Knife. Also, there is a link to another article titled Every man should carry a pocket knife.

"If your loved one has not been initiated into this manly tradition, it’s time to help him along by giving him a quality knife. Don’t go with something with a fork, saw, and pizza cutter. Get something traditional that he’ll be able to carry comfortably in his pocket."

Its a good read. Thought I would pass it along.

That was a great list, I left a comment at the end.:)

Thanks for the post.

.

Great list, and a must read for anyone sliding down the slippery slope toward becoming a metrosexual.

I just think it's good to know that we're justly recognized as manly men! ;)

(Of course in the case of Suze, Ashley Kate and others of the fairer sex, this would make them more womanly women! :p

A Hip Flask
I can't believe they left out a Hip Flask!
What is more manly than pulling out a hip flask with some single malt, especially at a dry occasion?

Along with pocket knives, fountain pens, you can never have too many hip flasks...

What is the world coming to??

Thanks for the article! I wouldn't say that PK are manly seeing how my Grandmother carried and my wife carries a pocket knife.

Nice article.

The real question is, how manly are you? I have or have had-
Dopp kit
bristle brush
badger shaving brush
tailored suit
shoe shine kit
white cotton handkerchiefs
fountain pen
compass
poker set
pocket knife (or a few dozen, who's counting?)
tomahawk and throwing knives
BB gun
yo-yo
Dangerous Book for Boys
Treasure Island, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Journey to the Center of the Earth

I never did get the metrosexual thing.

Dangerous Book for Boys was not published in England....

What is metrosexual?
It is a new word for me.

From Wikipedia -

"Metrosexual is a neologism of the 2000s generally applied to heterosexual men with a strong concern for their appearance, and/or whose lifestyles display attributes stereotypically attributed to gay men. The term is closely related to dandy."

So this list is metrosexual?

Tomahawks, throwing knives, and BB guns seem not to fit that image!

In which case I think you could whittle the manly list down to:

compass
poker set
pocket knife (or a few dozen, who's counting?)
tomahawk and throwing knives
BB gun
yo-yo
Dangerous Book for Boys
Treasure Island, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Journey to the Center of the Earth
(And I'll add bourbon and cigars) :p

Mainly for manly men.

Can we put the fountain pens back on the list, it would make me feel more secure...

Good article:

I think that many forget or do not know what to get a man.

To take your point a step further, I think that the political correctness movement of the last decade or two has done everything possible (to a large extent) to eliminate or erode the qualities that many of us traditionally respected in a man and grew up wanting to emulate.
