New "Tactical Knives" issue (July 2008) has a nice article about Rosarms knives on page 61. Let us know what you think.

The article is what got me to check out the Rosarms site and then I saw the link to here.
I had already heard some good reviews of Rossarms knives but until then all I had seen were the camping style knives. The Bayonet in tactical knives really grabbed my attention.
It reminded me a lot of the Mercworx knives with the same design ,similar steel ,micarta handles with hollow rivits. The only thing missing was the 500$+ price tag.

I would have liked to have seen a bit more about the sheaths but really even if it did not come with a sheath at 140$ it is worth having one made. I guess being into Busse kin blades makes this seem easier.

Other than the sheath the only other question I have is what the edge geometry is like?
It looks good on the hunting blades like the companion but I am particularly interested in the Bayonet?

Congrats on the article.

thank you!

Every knife comes with leather sheath...
Not premium, custom made but very practical reliable sheath.

By edge geometry you mean grind?

We use hollow ground.

By edge geometry it is both the grind and the angle that edge is at. A lot of US tactical knives have very obtuse edges. Like when you have a knife that is made from a thick piece of steel and is not very wide and then the grind only goes half way to the top. That makes for a very thick triangle of a blade. Also the secondary edges on US knives tend to be obtuse as well usually ground to 25 degrees. This makes it almost impossible to chip an edge so no warranty claims but makes for a dull knife.

I like hollow edges because they are usually the sharpest but they are a bit out of favour with the US market which likes either flat grinds or convex or appleseed shaped edges.

Scandinavian style edges with no secondary bevel are also popular with the Bushcraft guys. They will probably really like several of your knives and will be very interested in the birch handles.

Whoever decided which knives to send to the Tactical knives mag sure did a fantastic job. Those were great choices for the US market.

I am not so sure about the aluminium handles. They are more familiar than the regular style but are quite dated looking. It reminded me of the Scagel knives.
The Bayonet was excellent with a one piece micarta with hollow rivets. They are like the Mercworx knives I have been lusting after for a couple years except Mercworx uses green micarta and I can afford a Rosarms. Also the Rosarms has cooler steel!

I like the Nona model. It would be an excellent choice to give a micarta handle.

I would also change the names to Soviet cold war weapons like a MIG or call a machette an RPG-7. I know it's tacky but it will work.

Also read the article and came here to join. Very nice looking knives, natural. What is the deal with a free knive when you order? Do I have to spend a certain amount? Also saw that the Badger was not for sale on the rusknives. com website, will this become available soon?

We are getting new shipment soon. So we will have more knives available. Also if you don't see the knife on our website - check our dealers ( like a worldknives).
I'm not sure about free knife :) We offer gift cards for orders more then $200. I think you are talking about worldknives.com They do offer free knife but I'm not sure on rules.

Thanks for the info.

What T.K. missed from original story about Cliff is that kvd70 (author of that review my website where it was quoted from) most value Cliff for wide blade which can be used as a big spoon to get good piece of canned beef - standard issue snack.

here original story
------------------------------------------------
From Kvd70 (www.guns.ru bladeforum):

"At 2000 Motherland sent me to official trip in one of southern republic. When I prepare for this trip I deside to buy knife and choose this one because it looks powerfull, reliable and has kind of predatory grace. It also fit my palm very well. It was not too big, not too heavy, not too ordinary looking. My colleagues that time toke big, massive knives - almost sabers or swords and then during deployment did not carry them at all - too heavy. Real life use for it was only branch chopping, whittling, cutting bread, beaf, ham... Most important bonus feature - because of wide blade you can scoop up a lot of canned beaf from can (almost more then with spoon), very usefull thing in a big famaly ;)

Only one combat situation - I used knife to resist kidnapping attempt on the marketplace. I look intellegent with glasses on my face, so two guys deside I'll be easy target. And I was exteremely lucky becase at that point already take knife away to test smoked beaf, so I reflectevely strike hands to release my gun and Cliff did not fail me. Second guy was so terrified that just freeze with his eyeballs popping out while the first one yell something to him. Then, after gun was released, I start shooting and gundown both, then my friends come to help. All take 10-15 seconds only."

Thanks, Vassili.

I have one. PM if interested.

read that article on tactical knives,,kinda short but got me interested in the rosarms line,,now i want that cliff,, :)

I have the article and just re read it yesterday and boy did they really like the rosarms knives. It helped that they had 4 excellent knives. The only one I have not handled is the picnic and it looks pretty good. Also i think the fact that the bayonet has a micarta handle helps with people who are unsure about the natural handle materials.

I will try to get the article scanned and uploaded somewhere.

At roughly the same time that Unsub was rereading that article, so was I.
The knives really got a good write-up.
Unsub thinks highly of his bayonet, and the article echos his feelings.
I myself am planning on getting that American version of the Rescuer knife, as well as a Cliff.

I have been playing more with the SN Bayonet and it is really growing on me. All Rosarms have better than average handles but the one on the bayonet just fit my slightly smaller than average hands perfectly and i really like smooth micarta. I have a Custom Skookum Bush Tool that has American natural colored micarta so i have a really good example to compare the Russian natural micarta to on the Bayonet. They are surprisingly similar other than some tiny black dots on the russian. I would not know there was any difference just from looking. The knives are actually quite similar ,with both having full length full width tangs and brown leather sheaths. The Rosarms is half the price ,twice the size and has much better fit and finish though.

Do you have a photo ,Assuming Culpeper only bought 1:D

Congrats by the way Culpeper ,How about doing a little review ,you can either start a new thread or just do an addition to my Damascus rescuer thread?

You are going to be damn impressed with that sheath I think.

I have seen photos of the actual EMERCON knife and it looks cool but also very ugly. I can see why they made a lot of changes for the US market.
