Hmmm. I guess you could deem it "cheap crap" in your opinion. Others might suggest "affordable alternative" to "expensive stuff", but hey... semantics.

I like knowing that if my Kershaw stuff goes gunnybag, they got one helluva warranty. That's pretty cool. Is Cold Steel's warranty as good? I dunno.

They have some knives offered for 2021... Okay... this puts them "on a good course"?

I guess I'm with craytab craytab at this stage.... not really seeing the point here. We can all visit Cold Steel's website if we want.

Edit to add: Kershaw has a pile of stuff to choose from that's USA Made... Cold Steel offer that?

They need to offer decent leather for their fixed blades. Spyderco can do it on a $45 knife, why can’t CS?
I prefer rigid sheaths for most fixed blades, but considering how many people complain about the Secure-Ex, it would be good to offer alternatives.

Can’t wait for those Mini Recon 1’s to come out. I suspect they’ll sell well.

Keep in mind most of these releases are planned and produced well in advance, probably before GSM acquisition.

For example, CS reps in the CS forums already hinted at the mini Recon 1, and even confirmed that they will not be black coated early last year. These latest release, including the return of the old classics like talwar or holdout are probably already happening regardless GSM.

I think it’s a bit if a sneaky move for GSM to come and ask people what classic we would like to see returning, knowing that most would ask for talwar and holdout, and then try to be the hero when they announced them this week. Obviously they are looking for reactions like “OMG! Thank God GSM! You listened to the fans!” “OMG glad GSM did the right thing!”

So I wouldn’t judge GSM strategy based on 2021 release yet, since this is really planned pre-acquisition. Also transitions take time and some of that might only reflect on 2022 releases.

that 4 inch kris ti-lite is exactly what i had been hoping for, although not in that ugly brown color, why couldnt they have made it stainless steel handles instead like the knife john travolta gives his daughter in face-off

For me, the old style Medium Voyager is hard to beat in an edc. Wish they would offer those again.

This sort of glosses over the fact that Cold Steel has historically had problems actually getting things made, which should be alleviated by GSM's access to cash. Planning a production run that couldn't be paid for until the preceding run had been sold seemed to be a common thing with CS based on their availability issues.

Whether they were fishing for goodwill or not, GSM could've easily scuttled or changed whatever production was planned and not already in-process. If anything, it's more of a signal that the doomsayers speculating that everything would go to shit were overreacting and that GSM doesn't have plans to significantly shift the product line downmarket.

First off, I really don’t have a dog in this fight. I have all the Cold Steel knives I want to own and will probably sell off what I have just to consolidate my collection.

That said, I suppose this could simply be a marketing move but I don’t see what’s really wrong with that. It’s possible that when the deal was finalized everyone involved knew there would be some backlash. If this was planned from the start to bolster confidence in the buyout and the company going forward, I see no problem with it. The caveat being that these products and what will be produced from here on out will need to be up to the quality standards and reflect the price structure we’ve come to expect from Cold Steel if they want to keep this level of confidence from their target demographic

Really only time will tell what is actually going to happen over the long term, but this isn’t a bad start.
