Don't usually post here but I was curious as to which knife others may feel to be the better all round tool and why. By all round I mean that could be the better tool for its size regardless of what may be compromised due to blade thickness, handle countours, etc. Also, I am thinking about pulling the trigger on one and although I'd like to get both....... Any advise would be appreciated.

Me? I like them both... but the ASH is just a bit nicer. A classic look.

The coated ASHs are easier to get - but double cut seem to attract attention -;)

And if I was going to get a Hell Razor - GO MAGS!! :)

yeah, i agree with what Turner said.

Personally, I like the HR a "LITTLE BIT" more, but they cost almost double what a CG ASH-1 costs right now, so there's no question which one to choose!

Thanks guys. I have a lead on a HellRazor and of course I can still get an ASH-1. Decisions decisions.

Get Both! Decide later and sell the one you don't like as much...

Personally, I like the HR a little more on the weight and agility side of things, but the ASH-1 is a beast and would do the heavier work with more ease.

Or, maybe you'll keep 'em both! ;)

There's absolutely nothing wrong with getting both...:thumbup:

the cgash is A LOT more knife. significantly thicker and heavier. also a wider blade.

the hr has a similar blade length, but is lighter and quicker. probably wont chop nearly as well, but if you are going to carry it around as a camp knife, weight may be an issue.

i think the key is the grip on each, and which is more comfortable for you.

for me, they are equally comfortable.

So far for me the Hellrazor has been my favorite . After buying and sell two of them I had to get another one with standard slabs . I've been lurking around waiting for one with mags at a good price got one .It should be in my hands mon or tues I can't wait . :) :) :)

As has already been advised here..get both. Also, pick up a SFNO,CGBATAC then send them all to me.:D

I really like the ASH. Just feels like more blade in a similar sized package. But you can't go wrong either way. :)

ASH1 for now. That thick blade is gonna make chopping easy. Downside is that thick blade makes it a heavy mutha for just about everything. LOL

But I think for what we all use these knives for - the ASH1 is better. The Razor is just too light to use as a camp knife. And that whole cost thingy that was mentioned. LOL

I tend to like thinner lighter blades on my knives unless they are a dedicated chopper, therefore the Hellrazor wins in a head to head competition.

The Hell Razor is comfortable in my hand, but the ASH has a much nicer design, fits like a glove, and gives you a very secure feeling.

While I don't have my ASH-1 yet because I bought an LE, I do have an HR. Since a camp blade will be carried around a CG ASH-1 is too thick. I don't know about your camping experience but I don't chop firewood with my knife. That is what a Gansfor Bruks mini (or other light hatchet) is for. A 3/16 HR is plenty of knife. INFI is great. It doesn't need to be .320 thick.

I have both-and spent the weekend testing each against the Camp Tramp.

The Hell Razor is faster in hand and much less tiring. Not as good as a chopper--but you can choke up on the blade a lot better than you can with the ASH.All depneds on how much "chopping you plan to do"

The ASH is a TANK of a knife.Better Chopper than it's length would lead you to believe--but it's HEAVY.You could use the Hell Razor for a lot longer before fatigue set in.

If it was a choice between the ASH and Hell Razor.....

As a Camp knife--I would choose the Hell Razor over the ASH.

As what knife would I depend on to never fail between the 2"???

The ASH---
