ASH-1 is beyond a doubt, the best knife ever made. In my visual scanning capacity/experience. I know, I know.
I have a nice late 60s era hand made Randall, several early Puma's, Kinfolks, Shrade autos yudda, yudda. My attraction to the ASH-1 is that it is perfection. Its balanced, its functional, its attractive to my eye, my conception of what the best knife ever made should look like, its robust and sturdy, each line has been well thought out.
5/16" heavy? Yes it is. A nice camp knife? Not really. What would I use a ASH-1 "camp knife" for that my axe, cheap utility knife blade folder, or Chinese made machete couldnt do when camping in the "wilderness"?
They cost me about $28 bucks.
This is a knife that goes in my "grab n go" kit, and 5 years from now they will be selling for a grand on epay/pay ponzi. My three cents anyway. (adjusted for inflation) Do not mean to step on anyones toes, just my observations. Best wishes.
