Hi-

The ASH is a great all around knife. 12 inch OA. There are customs, CG ASH (reg) CG Skinny, and LE.

Skinny is the same thickness as LE, CG is .32, and customs are usually .22.

Steel Heart (SH) : ASH-1
Blade Steel : INFI
Blade Length : 6.5
Overall Length : 12.0
Weight : 20.7
Blade Thickness : 0.32
List Price : $297
Year : 2007

Depends on your definition of combat, when I think of combat I think of fighters.

Combat grade, some, customs have custom handles/ finish.

Good info but the Skinny is more like .187 stock.

With the coatings still on, mine is .196.

So you have three options .32 .22 and .187+coating.

Having a few SHBMs and FBMs around I have not chopped or split wood with an ASH-1 so I can’t help there.

Hi Gerberblades,

I think of fighter, because the ASH-1 tip is really pointed.

I've one and it's a very good knife, and, as Horton says, very well balanced for .320

thanks guy i though the blade was bigger why only 6 inches

It was an anniversary edition of the SH-1 not a new knife. Since the SH-1 was six inches so was the ASH-1. The more recent SH is the FSH and that has a larger blade.
What size blade do you think you need?
.

Just my $.02 but I have used my cgash1 to chop at length on several occasions, and I hate say it... but... it's a pinky pincher in my case. I prefer the squatches, they're much lighter, handle's more comfortable, and they bite deep when chopping. However my Banned skinny ash give's me goosebumps, an awesome camp knife, if it has to be an ash than the skinny gets my vote

well my shortest outdoor blade is around but 6.5 is plenty does anyone have any pics of the ash1 being used in the outdoors

I have an ash-1 CG, good blade.
I like the comp edge Hell Razor much much better, it cuts and chops better and it fells better in my hand.

thanks man but i dont have enough money to get a hell razor
but the ash1 still preforms right ?

I have the ASH-1 and Skinny ASH. The Skinny is great all-around camp knife, but doesn't quite have enough a** to be a chopper. I chopped up some 3"-4" hard, dry maple with mine while on a bowhunting camp-out last week and I had to hold the knife by the end of the handle with my first two fingers to gain some swing speed. The shock of chopping made those fingers hurt, too. It did get the job done, though.

The ASH-1 is a better chopper but a little heavy for a general-purpose camp knife, in my opinion. It is one very cool blade, though. I love it.

I bet the ASH-1 LE is just right!

Stay sharp,
