ASH-1 Recommendation???

I've tried them all out and the skinny ash fits my hand the best. Don't really care for the fatter ones but to each his own.

All this talk of ASH-1's makes me think I'll have to pick up a skinny version to try it out. Anyone have any pics of a FSH overlaid or side by side with an ASH-1?

EDIT: Disregard. Found the pic I needed in the other thread!

Chris.

My main concerns are that the fatty is too much weight for it's size, and would be overkill I guess, while the LE might not be quite enough knife for the hardest of beatings.

At the 21 oz. that the CG ASH-1 weighs, I wouldn't even want a knife with a 12" blade to weigh that much (no joke!). Even half the weight (10.5 oz.) would be right at my upper limit of what I would carry as a 6" knife.

That being said, I'd be interested in seeing what you could do to break the LE or even the Skinny for that matter. IMO, all three variants are built like a tank and would be extremely difficult to break by hand.

I like the LE .220 thickness ones best and second choice would be the Skinny's at .187 thickness.

Really..... give me that great big fat lump of steel..... !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The .22 is probably the best compromise.... :)

With the weight of my hunting rifle and gear I am not all bothered by that bit of extra weight the .32 adds to the mix...and if the end of the world starts while I am out bush I have the blade that WILL survive it..... ;)

Andy, I want to thank you for answering my email and giving me great detailed advice!! You probably know ASH-1s better than anyone else on here from the looks of it lol:p After taking everyone's opinion into consideration, I think I am going to go with the LE (.22). Everyone seems to think it is the most comfortable, and the best compromise between the fatty and skinny. After all, it is INFI we are talking about here, and I would certainly never find a way to damage it. I have larger knives to do most of the harder chores anyway if needed. So an ASH-1 LE with black full convex grind blade, and magnum pumpkin g10 handles please:D Again, everyone, thanks for your great advice on the matter; especially Andy and Garth! After all, ASH-1s are a VERY serious matter! lol

I think I gotta lean towards the fatty for this one. I usually go for thinner knives but for some reason I love the way the thicker ASH feels in my hand.

......no problem at all mate, glad I could help..!!! And yes...they ARE very very serious business..... :D

I absolutely loved my CG ASH, just ask Andy how often I ask how it is doing..... But I have to say this, I did EDC that blade. I carry scout configuration, SOB. I also EDC'd my skinny after the CG, and it was extremely easier to EDC. However, I will admit that I felt that I was a lot more comfortable with a thicker handle. Everything I chopped, cut, or processed with either knife, there was no noticable difference in performance betweeen the two. Just my two cents.......if it is worth even that much..........
