ash-1

Could anyone describe the difference in feel between the Skinny Ash-1 and the .220 LE? Also, any real difference between the LE and SE?

Thanks!

To me Bro there is a definitive difference in the two. The Skinny ASH which in reality .1875" and w/coating it will run out to around .200". If you have handled a HR with mag handles it is the exact same as the Skinny w/Mags. Same thickness. The LE, SE Show blades (SATIN) are at .220" & then you have the CG .220 w/caoting that will be around .332-.336" on average. The .220" blade be it a SATIN or CG is my absolute favorite of the ASH family. Blade weight, thickness, strength etc are just perfect. The Skinny just seemed to be a little light and with the height of the blade it just didn't feel as good. Now a HR with the same thickness is different cause the blade is not as tall. The .220" though just sets in the hand and pushes through a material that is being cut with comfort and I guess I mean it's just a PROPER knife!!! The CG's are also excellent for the coated blades. Not enough of those made IMHO!!!;)

Top one is a skinny.... "Desert Sand" (second one) is a .220 and the rest are .32s. Spine shots are needed...maybe later today... :D

I can't find one ash-1 of any variety and looking at these is quite frustrating and amazing at the same time. Sweet baby jesus how in the world could one person own all that awesomeness? There must be one that someone kind of likes slightly less then the others.. you know what I'm talking about.. the outsider lol allow me to give the outsider a good loving home, have a heart.

Send me a PM or email, I hate seeing someone this frustrated.

How could the skinny ASH not be strong enough? Can you imagine a circumstance that could bend or damage a Busse blade that was 'only' 0.19" thick?

Assuming you're responding to Russ's reply to my question - where does he say the Skinny isn't strong enough. You must own one. ;)

Thanks for all the replys, ill be searching daily if not hourly for it. I'm not gonna knit pick on which ash-1 I get ill take what ever I can snatch up. This is the first knife that I've wanted that isn't readily available, kind of makes it all the more desirable.

Too bad you don't list any contact info, makes it a lot harder to help you.

Difference in feel of one grip vs. another is subjective and will vary from one person to the next based on:
- hand size and shape;
- grip size, shape and material (G-10 vs. micarta (canvas, linen or paper));
- metal thickness;
- personal preferences.

To me, the difference in feel between a skinny ASH1 and an LE is noticeable but not huge (the difference in thickness of the two is close to 1/32"). Comparing a LE and a fatty (CG) ASH1, the difference in thickness (and therefore feel) is pretty significant at a tenth of an inch.

The 2008 SE ASH1 will feel similar to an LE because both have magnum grips. The 2007 SE has standard grips, so it will feel different compared to an LE with magnum grips. The SE models were Blade Show specials, so their availability now is limited. An LE would be easier to find for sale than an SE.

NOT one Bro, NOT one!!! I'm just saying that for me it's a comfort thing. I like thinner blades to be shorter in height. To me IMHO a .220" in anything 6" or longer is the best all around blade thickness. The SFNO, ASH, BWM-LE are all examples of a great .220". Then when I go to say the HR, SJTAC, BATAC, SAR5, anyday all day I LIKE the .1875" They feel natural! It's a personal mind set, likes & dislikes what ever you want to call it. Like I said, bend it, HAW not happening, that is one of the main reasons I stick with INFI. I like lateral strength and INFI displays that time and again.:thumbup:

I had no idea ASH-1s were in such demand. Looks like it's time for me to look through my big box of INFI and find something to list on the exchange. What are they going for these days?
