ASH vs ASH1 and how many versions thinner than CG?

Is there such thing as an ASH (without the "One") and if so, how is it different form the ASH1? Also, I'd like to get an ASH or ASH1 with a thinner blade than the combat grade. What are my options? Is there a "regular" thickness and then a thinner "skinny ASH"? Or is there just CG and skinny? And how many editions have been made in regular or thin thicknesses? I have noticed a skinny ASH1 and a SE ASH that is also supposedly skinny. Thank you
 
ASH-1 is the Anniversary Steel Heart 1, a 15th anniversary re-release, made of INFI, of Busse Combat's original Steel Heart (now called the Steel Heart 1), which was made of A2 or ATS-34, depending on who you listen to. So, no, there is no ASH w/o the 1 but there are SH-1s that will cost you a small fortune IF you can find one for sale. As to the thicknesses, the CG/Combat Grade and HOG models are about 5/16ths thick, the SE/Special Edition and LE/Limited Edition are about 7/32nds and the "Skinny ASH" is about 3/16ths inch thick.
The Skinny ASH is currently available for immediate purchase at the Busse Company Store for $302 +S/h but only with a sage colored blade and magnum black micarta handles. I have one and really like it. I suspect that you will too. Pete
 
The LE is a MARVELOUS blade. I just picked up yesterday mine.:cool:
but get your skinny, while you can!
 
I have been trying real hard to resist getting one of those skinny ASH-1s with the magnum handles. I have a 2007 ASH-1 SE, so I don't need it......but it sure is calling me!:D

All I saw on the order page was the desert sage with black magnum micarta, so I ordered it. But if you have one lying around with the tan, SEND IT TO ME! Just could not resist another ASH-1. :D
 
I picked up an ASH1 CG from a forum member a couple weeks ago (green blade with black magnum G-10)....just rcv'd A-1 Okuden kydex for it yesterday......WOW!!! And I'm still looking at ASH1's...I have issues! :eek:

What's the difference between the LE and the SE?

Also, I only see regular (CG) ASH and LE ASH available at bussecombat.com, where are the skinny ones you guys are talking about?
 
Thanks. I saw somewhere else on this forum that the LE tiger hide scales are regular size, not magnums. Can we confirm that they are magnums for sure?

And both the SEs and LEs are .220" thick... the skinny's are .1875" (3/16") thick.

Thanks for the answers, guys, this has gotta be the friendliest part of this forum I've hung out in. I went ahead and ordered a skinny ASH with tan mags, and threw in an LE to boot :eek: Once I compare 'em to my CG ASH I'll decide which one to get pants for.

I've seen 2 looks to the tigerhide linen on the ASH-1 LEs...

I put a little mineral oil on the forward part of the one in front...
and the one in the back is straight from the factory.

The one in front is the same one in the close up pics, which is my favorite.
I haven't seen it on that many of them.
(they are resting against a sheathed BATAC LE, and that's a linen tiger culti in front)
