While doin the dishes two days ago, I decided to rid my new ASH1 LE of the fingerprint smudges from the numerous fondlers. I ran the scratch pad side of the yellow and green dishwashing sponge and this resulted in some fine scratch lines on my Busse! Is there any way of gettin rid of the fine scratches on the INFI? The ASH1 LE is gorgeous and I'd like to "restore" her to her worthy status!

Metal polish..in Australia we use Autosol..not sure if it is available over there.

It's important to "scrub" your blade from edge to spine. . . Doing it the other direction (from handle to tip) will always cause problems. . .

Try some finer grit scotch-brite pads or just send it in and we'll take care of it for you. . .

Thanks,

Jerry :D

Jerry, this is fantastic. Great advice and an offer attached.
My hat is off and thanks for providing this confidence in us customers.
Cheers and regards Urs

My girlfriend cleaned a few of my knives the other way (handle to tip) and she is still paying me back for that.

Best thing that ever happened :D

Now that she's all scratched up... take her out and use her! :D
That is what they are made for after all. :p

You can still buy another one for the safe. ;)

And... how cool is it that Boss Hog offers to clean her up for you.

agreed, now you can really start enjoying your busse, the first couple of scratches always look out of place but after three they look awesome. use it!!

Brother, you've gotta take that knife out and wail on her! The ASH-1s are simply amazing users, you won't believe what they're capable of.

A Busse in the safe is a Busse wasted!

I just push cut through a phone book with my stock-edged CG, no sweat! Give it a shot with your LE, your eyes will POP OPEN!

I did the same thing to mine! Of course I didn't find it too amusing but it's my user so looking back on it I can manage a short smile.:)

Wow, the MAN himself chimed in! I don't wanna whine about some little scratches for now...will try to clean it up on my own. Just an observation on the characteristics of INFI in Satin.

Hey Jerry, is there any special method in removing the fine scratches on INFI? Or can I just employ a metal polish (on fine grit scotch-brite pads) to do the job?

Lil'Foo, idahoskunk, moonwilson...I keep on conteplating on using one of my 3 Busses and will probably eventually do so once I get the sheaths (currently in transit). All the raving you guys do on this forum is really motivating!

Solstice, thank goodness BOSS HOGG chimed in, now we know what we need to do to clean it up when needed!

"Got Scratches?"

Use it, find some thing that "itches"

Busse knives make great user knives, while I prefer coated blades as users some folks prefer that the knives they use be "Shiny"

Go for it!!

Heh-heh... If I were you... I'd beat that ASH... and THEN send it in for refinishing! LOL ;) :D:D

... If you are wanting to try to remove the scratches yourself... Ya might want to try using the same sponge on the 'scratch pad' side (or another sponge of the same variety, since you use that one for cleaning dishes you eat off of) and put just a li'l of that metal polish on it, and this time follow Jerry's advice about wiping parallel to the satin 'grooves', down the blade from spine to edge. Take your time and do it with care... Too little pressure or rubbing allows you to step up, too much leaves no room for reversal. I'd suggest the painter's method... Long strokes parallel (but only from spine to edge!! LOL ...Watch your fingers!), with light pressure.. easy does it. Wipe off the polish with a CLEAN rag frequently to check your progress. You may have to do the whole blade to get a consistent 'finish' if you find that this alters the look of the satin finish on the blade enough that you notice a difference in the areas you are trying to fix... although it should be only a mild difference if at all. Since the Boss has offered to buff out the scratches for ya, this might be worth trying first, while you have a plan B; this way you can find out if this works for future reference.

**NOTE** I have not tried this myself!! But it is what I would try first if I discovered the same thing and felt that this was too mild to warrant a return to Busse for a refinish request. Just remember... Slow, easy, parallel, carefully. If you decide to try, please post the results!

I bought a BATAC SE recently and it arrived with some small rust spots from storage. I like the knife and plan on using it so I didn't complain but I would like to remove the spots without messing up the DC too much. Is this possible or am I about to put some nice shiny spots all over the DC finish? Thanks in advance.

Pete

90% of my users are satin. i find it the easiest to maintain, and the best for food prep. when i get tired of looking at the scratches i polish 'em on a big piece of green scotch brite from home depot, using a stropping motion with the blade laid flat instead of angled up.
if at this point i want more polish i repeat the last procedure on a strop(blade laid flat) then on to corrugated cardboard. i can give a satin blade a fair polish in 10 or 15 minutes.
my point being...use them LE's

Sounds encouraging Jaxx and voracious, now that the LE is scratched, I feel like an idiot for not using the pad from spine to edge (or vice versa) when I washed it as the satin finish exhibits "vertical" lines from spine to edge! Just wasn't payin attention due to the excitement! I'll take some before and after pics when I get a chance later today or tomorrow, and if it does not go the way I think it should, I'll send it back to the Hog Pros! =)

... If you use Flitz or any metal polish, that IS a strong possibility!! I was warned in another thread of this when I had asked about dark spots (not rust) on a D/C blade. Turns out I got rid of most of each of them by literally rubbing my finger pads across these with some pressure, and then oiling the blade. The 'scrubber' side of the sponge may cause shiney spots as well...? Here's the thread where I had asked for guidance with D/C...

OK, just tried scrubbing the finish from spine to edge with the same pad I used earlier with some soap and water....this resulted in some vertical lines from the spine to edge which is not exactly "straight"...kinda curves like at a 3 degree angle from one end to the other. Not the result I want. I'm goin to have to call Amy and get the address for shipping tomorrow as I did plan for this one to be a safe queen. Thanks for all the tips guys, but gonna have to take Boss Hog's offer up on this one!
