Used the ASHBM to bust up some firewood this arv. I have a pile of flooded gum to be used and it's ROCK HARD. I tried splitting a lump of it with a block splitter and it just bounced off it, leaving a 1 - 2mm dent in it. As you can see I decided to try and split it up by going around the edges following the grain so it splits apart easier. Well, it was so hard, even a sliver of about half an inch or so was enough to seriously flex the 5/16" slab of INFI. It was an effort to get it out. Not to mention a bloody good workout making shingles for the fire. Enjoy the pics!

Very sexxxxy :D I get some flex like that on my NMFBM but always without a camera when i need it. Only been able to capture minor flexing so far :(

ASHBM is a great knife, i miss mine!!

Great pic Rob. It is amazing that the wood is that hard that it will flex really thick INFI. Kinda explains how some knives will fail(Not INFI, obviously).

Awesome!!! That's some serious flex on a piece of steel that thick, impressive,, nice to know what INFI can handle

Crazy how tough that wood is. Great pics!

That wood is seriously tough. A really dense, twisting grain. Burns beautifully too. Slow and hot. I'm going to see if I can get that MOAB to flex. I may require a defibrillator close on hand as it's entirely possible my cardio vascular system could shut down from bashing that thick monster into this wood :D

Crazy how tough that Knife is! Love the ASHBM-In Fairness the Battle Saw would probably get the same results-It's INFI, Great Pics-Thanks!!!

Wow, I was going to comment on the toughness of that wood... But the mistress really deserves the shout out. Rob, would you try doing something like that with other big knives, or do you lack confidence in them? I know that I try things with the few Busses I have that I would never try with some of my other blades, despite thier reputation for toughness, etc. I simple do not have the same confidence in the others.

In any case, cool pics man.

Wow Rob ---- that's insane --- I never thought I'd see the ASHBM flex like that ---- what a champ

I had no idea that gumwood was that strong... I'd like to get a piece long enough for a good staff! Have to start looking around.

Thanks for the pics... I'm glad I have an ASHBM in my collection :D.

I do have a couple of other brand bigguns I can give it a go on. I do have to split more wood in the next day or so, so I'll try to get pics.

Thanks so much Rob--that would be cool to see. I recently picked up a Becker Bundok Bowie; it's pretty beastly as well, and comparable in size. Too bad you weren't just down the road; it would have been cool to stop by and try to pound that one through the same piece.

Looking forward to your pics!

To be perfectly honest, a good carbon steel should be able to flex like that and not break. If it does break, then the HT was obviously bad. I have done this many times with my SHBM's. The funny thing is that the first time you do it, before you pull your knife out, you are pretty sure you ruined the knife. The first time I did it, I was sure I had ruined my busse. When it came out it went back to true. I did it with a few other knives and they went back to true. Then one day, I did it with another knife and it took a set. It stayed bent, lol. I was shocked.
