Ashokan 2010 photo's

I feel deeply honored and lucky to be a member of this community, and to have friends like you guys and meet new ones.

I had a wonderful time at Ashokan as usual. everyone was eager to share ideas and smiles. lots of laffs. I would like to thank whom ever set up the taste test that I crashed. I thanked Justin and Stacy but I am sure others contributed and I took total advantage of their kindness. Thank you again to all who made it a wonderful weekend.

I feel the love :D

I think you meant "gopher" instead of "star" though Gary :D Just kidding, I am honored to help out everyone, I feel sort of out of place if I'm not helping.

Thanks everyone for the pictures! Gary you always take amazing photos. I like the "toy" setting on your camera, that shot makes them look like action figures.

Full write up and my own pictures soooon....

Great shots guys. Gary I think you truly captured me. Old and bald!
Thank you all for a GREAT weekend.

This was my first year at Ashokan, and I'm still taking it all in. I felt like the NEBG guys adopted me on the spot. Everybody seemed surprised that I'd come up "all the way from Texas", but to tell you the truth, I'd go a lot farther than that for the quality of company I found there. Thanks again, all y'all. I'll certainly be back.

I got a few photos, but haven't sorted through them yet. I'll post them as soon as I know what I got.

Doc, I think I managed to share all of about 10 sentences with you, and then you were out of my view all weekend! I meant to ask you how you were doing... good to hear you dug it. Now I'll really freak you out... this year was actually kind of subdued compared to others. I was reflecting today how nice it was because the pace seemed much more relaxed! Regardless, I've never experienced anything other than a great time at Ashokan - glad you could make it, and hope you do again!

Hey Doc, great to see you there and finally put a face to the handle. This was my 6th NEBG Ashokan, Matt is right it was a bit subdued this year, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, I think everyone still had lots of fun and the presenters and comradery was still great.

See you there next year!

Just remember folks- you ain't seen nothin yet! Next year is the once every five years Sword Ashokan, these are the ones I really look forward to as they are so packed with fantastic information that you just cannot get anywhere else. The plans I am aware of so far are-

bringing one of the most knowledgeable guys on swords today, my good friend Peter Johnson from Sweden.

doing a smelt where we will produce a blade from steel we will make from dirt and charcoal on the spot

possibly a wootz smelt

The rest is still under wraps but there will be many great lectures on the historical making and use of all things sword!

Dan says we may need extra accommodations for all the speakers and demonstrators he wants to have, so if you are into swords keep mid September 2011 open and bring lots of note pads because it is going to be an information avalanche!

Gary,

These are astounding street/portraiture images of a professional level. Simply wonderful. I couldn't help but peek at your exif data and you chose your settings well. You should post some of these og dpreview.com or photo.net. I kind of suspect you lurk or participate in those arenas already.

Fine work! It really makes me wnat to go to the next event.

I can't wait for next year! I really better start on my sword now so I have a chance in hell of getting it done in time... :)

Thanks very much Dean, I tend not to shoot a lot at one time, but try to capture
as best I can the moment, not often easy to do. Probably a throw back from film
days when you only have so many shots on a role ;)

I travel a lot seems like I never have much time on the net,
I've seen dpreview and will give both of those sites a looksee.
