IMG_20170910_221119041.jpg So I'm not really sure what makes a good hammer for forging, but this cross peen has been floating around for a while. I re hafted it with a piece of osage. So I guess it will be strong enough. I'm not even sure how heavy it is. Maybe 3-3.5 pounds? IMG_20170910_221100974.jpg

Looks identical to what my main forging hammer started as. I ground some weight out of it then rounded the face.

Yeah. I'm on the road but when I get home I will. I'd have to weigh it but I'm guessing 2.5 or 3 lb.

The shape is good.

I find a 3# to 3.5# hammer works OK for heavy moving of steel, but a 2-2.5# hammer is better for most general forging ( bevels, etc.) Mostly I use a 1Kg and a 1.5Kg hammer.

I am bringing you some hammers, so don't run out and get any new ones yet.
