I am partial to S90V as it has excellent edge holding, decently stainless, and I never had an issue getting a razor sharp edge on it. Toughness...considering the intended use, I find S90V to be tough enough. It's also not a "New" steel and has been around since 1996, so the early issues with hardness have been ironed out.
The 440V core damascus was produced by Mike Norris in the late 1990's (confirmed with hi)m at Blade show a few years ago. He did not make a lot of that particular mash-up and no longer makes it at all. I have one special project in the works with the last remaining piece of the steel. Just waiting on the "right" handle material.
