attending the accademy in JAN and wheni come out id like to buy myself a nice knife to carry on duty what do you suggest and why?

The Spyderco FRN Endura is a pretty darn good knife. Why?...VG-10 steel, ambidextrious pocket-clip, choice of plain-edge, combo-edge, or fully-serrated.

A G-10 Police of course!
Good grip, durable, doesnt show scratches like the SS handles.
Plus you can't beat the name!

i didnt even know they made the Police in g10.

i love my delica so im sure the endura would be a natural progression as well.

i also thought of carrying a CIVILIAN straped to my vest incase i was in a SHTF scenario.

im stuck between the Spydie the Benchmade and an EMERSON at this point
thanx

Many LEO's as well as civilians carry a Gunting.

They are available in 3 variations:
Live blade - sharp cutting blade with sharp horns and ramp
CRMIPT - dull blade with sharp horns and ramp
Drone - dull blade and rounded horns for training

It can be used in both open and closed positions and was designed with SD in mind and not as an after thought.

Pain compliance, pressure points, locks...the Gunting can aid in all these areas.

Of course any knife can cut but the Gunting is purpose driven and is capable of a multitude of tasks from SD to FMA and of course the utility factor.

Lots of info and pics at www.cssdsc.com.

Another vote for the Gunting.
So many applications.......small cut, big cut, blunt force, holds.....nice tool all around.

I carry a Gunting in a sheath on my duty belt, on the right side beside the pistol holster, and a Civilian clipped into a pocket on my left side. The Gunting for reasons already stated, plus it fits my hand better than any folder I have ever handled. The Civi because when carried tip-up blade-forward in the pocket, it is easily available for left-handed deployment into edge-forward reverse grip for ripping upward into the leg, groin, or abdomen of a bad guy who may have me on the ground by that point. If I am wearing my body armor which has a trauma plate pocket, I will carry another Civi there, too, tip-down. (I use two different vests.) A Ronin on its neck chain is an option when not carrying the Civi clipped into the trauma plate pocket. Stay safe and well, and good luck at the academy!

If you can find a carbon fiber handled Police model, you will be set. Also, a Military would be hard to beat.

Military,Stonger tip.Police G10 or CF.Spyderco.com still has the G10 Police in the discontinued section.

I was watching the television show Cops a couple of weeks ago. Some guy was hung up on top of a chain link fence and could not get dow, he had been up there about 45 minutes he said. The cop used what looked like a Military to cut the guys pants to free him.

This is a tough knife - excellent size with a blade shape that would not incite sheeple panic if they ever saw you using it on duty.

Since you will already have an array of less lethal weapons issued to you, consider an Assist. The one with the blunted tip and the carbide glass breaker.

You may want to wait & see if whichever agency you get picked-up by has a policy limitation on blades. My juris has a local ordinance making it a 90 day misdemeanor to possess a blade (in excess of 3") in public with no exemption for LEO's.

Many departments don't spend any time thinking about knives carried on duty, but my agency limits ofcrs to a knife "as a tool, not a weapon" (which pretty much rules out Civilian, Gunting, etc.)

And another vote for the Military! IMO, this Spydie just cannot be surpassed by any other. :D

thank you for all the suggestions and wishes.
I am not a LEO yet but hopefully soon

i may just pick up a Military and put my civie in the drawer till i find out the rules i may also get a assist and a leatherman for my BAT belt

See if you'll be able to carry a Gunting-it can't be beat in LEO applications.--Joe

If it was me I'd pick a military from Spydie . . . or an 806D2 from BM. I would NOT get an Emerson, they have gotten a bad rap around here as overpriced and under-quality'd (look, I made a word!)
