Yippee!!!
I just spoke to my step-father, and asked him if he got anything in the mail today. He's not one who offers up information easily. He said that he got the knife and that he *really* likes it. It is the same size as the knife (Gordon) that he is using now. And he even likes the purple color!
He said he will use it when he wears out the one he has. Sheesh, that could take forever! But then he said that the "instructions" said to not use the blades as a pry bar and for digging, and he does a lot of that outside in the yard with the Gordon. He said that he really appreciates that I sent him sent him the knife. He's a man of few words for the most part, so I was lucky to get that much out of him.
I then spoke to my mom and my brother, and neither one of them knew that he had received the knife today. They also didn't know I had sent him one.
Mission successfully accomplished. Not a word about price or how his Gordon was just as good, etc. I told him he can put it in his pocket when they are going out somewhere and he won't be prying or digging.
He was as sentimental in his thanks as he is capable to being, and also acknowledged that it was from my personal collection.
My goodness. The man is 79, and he's never had a decent knife before. There aught to be a law about that. I guess I always expect men to be carrying a pocket knife. I'm always carrying 2-4 knives except when I am flying.
Thanks again for you suggestions and input. When I mailed the knife I knew I was mailing the right one - regardless of whether Bob would know it or not.
