Assisted opening

I thought about de-assisting my Mini-Barrage but like others have said, it works fine one handed given its size.

Two of my three favorite axis knives are assisted, the 490 Arcane and the 477-1 Emisary. Along with my 9555 Auto-Rift, they’re pretty much all I carry anymore. Took a bit of practice to master closing them one handed, once I got it down tho it pretty much became second nature. And they make such a lovely snapping sound when the blade hits the stop pin opening.

Best part of the axis lock for me is being able to flip it shut just as quick as flicking it open. A frame or liner lock is easier to close on assisted than axis locks to me.. just my opinion

Being older Gen with slip joints as my only carry, (when as a kid...) it's always hard to flick an Axis in either direction. So it's nothing to pull the two pips back to open and then with the index finger close. It's really great to have a knife like the new Proper, I am very happy with mine, as working two-handed comes naturally. Have a good one all!

I hated the idea of assisted knives for a long time, as I can carry autos.

BUT, I handled a Mini-Barrage and fell head over heels for it. It gives a satisfying clack when opening and one-handed closing is easy as pie.

The only downsides to the AO mechanism comes when somebody asks to borrow you knife and you'll have to explain that it'll jump a bit when opened. Kind of a moot point for me, as I never let non-knife people use my knives. I once watched a coworker use the tip of my Mini-Stryker as a screwdriver

There’s a few benchmades that are assisted and I would like to try. My biggest concern is ease of maintenance. I’m not very comfortable using a modern folder that I can’t break down to clean and regular axis locks are tricky enough as is.
