A little history on this: about 5 years ago I was looking for high quality unfinished knives to do finish work on (I was tired of custom sheathmaking, but didn't have tools for making my own blades, so this was a compromise) and I got this blade from AT Barr. This is his famous Combat pattern, but for many years he's pretty much exclusively switched to doing folders. Barr did all of the grinding and heat treating. The knife came to me with all of the grind lines still on it, etc, so the finish work can only be blamed on me!
PICS BELOW!!!
The knife is 1/4" thick ATS-34 with a wicked tapered tang and a high flat grind on the blade. OAL is about 10 3/4" and the blade is a little over 5 3/4"/ Great size! Handle is canvas Micarta over red liners. What appears to be "burn" marks on the handle are actually old file marks. I had attempted to add a bit of texturing using a 1/8" round file. They were there maybe a year or two and the knife sat in a drawer since. Over the weekend I thinned the handles and reprofiled them to get rid of the texturing, but these marks still remain even though I filed the handles down to get rid of them! Weird, but there you go. The handles are sweet and look like an old sunburst Les Paul now!
I also refinished the blade so it has a decent satin finish (still some of the grind marks persist, but it's pretty good as the pics will show). The big ugly scar from my bench grinder that I used to but the initial edge on the blade (and slipped!) is now gone, too, after lots of sanding! I'd like $175 for the knife. Will also trade for a Strider PT in good shape. I have not made a new sheath to go along with it, so if you want one of mine I can do a Concealex sheath for no extra cost. Please email or post here. Thanks!
