Always wanted a reasonably authentic filipino blade, and wondered if any of the folks here had tried the Atlanta Cutlery Barong.

It's mid-priced, and I've found most of their stuff is OK. Bought my first Kukri there and have had hours of fun sharpening that and playing with two of them in siniwali and stuff.

Looks like an attractive item, but thought I'd check here before putting out $80 bucks for it.

Go ahead...Atlanta Cutlery will stand behind any product you buy. They also have Museum Replicas and make some very good duplicates of ancient and middle age weapons...including armour, yes it is as real as possible to the items that exist..rapiers, claymores, brooadswords, etc.
Hank wants his stuff to last and to be used...
He makes and sells many edged weapon / tool items...
I have several of Hank's Filipino Kris swords...good weight and fun to play with..VERY sharp...gives one a very different idea of Sinawalli....LOL!

I would stand behind it too! Way behind it so that when it comes apart I don't get hurt!

Okay I was joking but not by much. MRL has evidently had some serious quality control problems since the Del Tin days.

I would suggest Kris Cutlery for phillipine weaponry.

Well I just got one. They are made in India and come duller than hell, Ive given up using my diamond stone to put an edge and have gone straight to my file set. It weighs a ton. I belive around 4 pouns. Its huge though, much bigger than what I expected. You ever try Kris cutleries barong or visayan legacy?

Atlanta Cutlery / Museum Replicas used to be a great place to buy from. Then they were bought out by Windlass, and now ... um ... if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all, my mother used to tell me ... um ... they have a nice catalog with pretty pictures in it. The sword-like and knife-like objects made by Windlass look pretty authentic if you only want to hang them on a wall and look at them. Some of the non-Windlass knives in the Atlanta Cutlery catalog are not worthless (but you can get them for less from other dealers). And ... um ... well, I said three things ... and they were all nice things ... as nice as can reasonably be expected of me, surely ... is that enough, Mom?
