Hi there

I am trying to obtain some ATP-641 anti scale coating which is sold by Brownells in the USA and UK. I have sent an enquiry to the USA and the responce was the ATP-641 costs $13 USD (more than reasonable) and $60 USD for postage (excessive in my opinion). I live in hope of an alternative that can be obtained in Australia or a home made alternative. I feel the stainless steel foil option is wasteful however I will go down that path if I have to my only concern is to get it out the foil in time to quench. I am sure that someone somewhere has solved this problem. I have read about and option which utilises an ethanol/methanol/acteone mixed with 90% boric acid and 10% iron oxide but would like to get feedback if anyone has any experience with this.

I appreciate any help with this matter.

Cheers
Greg

What steel are you using? If you are doing long soak times there's really no good way to get around the foil, especially if it's an air hardening steel. It's it's something that requires a fast quench, I have heard of guys using a very light coat of satanite or other refractory cement as an anti scale compound. But I don't know how well that would work...

I have interest to buy ATP-641 too. Usually I use antiscale coating Condursal 1100 available here but it works good only in certain condition. I wrote to Brownells about 6 days ago and no answer yet. Does anybody know how to buy ATP-641 here in Slovakia? I mostly use stainless steel.
