ATR is pinching my hand

I have normal size hands and Im wondering if this is a user induced malfunction. I love my black ATR the lock up is great I like everthing about the knife except sometimes when I open it it pinches my hand. My only other compression lock is a ronin and I have never had a problem with it. So what can I do about that.
 
I haven't tried an ATR but I did have a Salsa that was bad about it.
 
It happens now and then with that lock type that it pinches the meaty part of your finger. I had two Yojimbos that did it worse than the ATR. The ATR is kind by comparison. My Yoji actually hurt at times. The Para Military seems to be immune from this. Must be the handle geometry or something. Whatever it is it seems that the Para forces you to grip it in a way that takes your finger out of the path of the lock better.

It has never happened to me with the yojimbo but i just noticed i open it different. I actually really like the copmression lock.
 
Yeah I just got my Yo. Great knife! I love the blade shape, I just hate the lock! I will not unlock, and it pinches bad, I hate to send it spyderco and have it out of my pocket for a month or longer. I was thinking of one day getting a para and I will not do it now. If fact this knife my end up on the trade list soon. I just don't see the compression lock as a good idea.
 
The "pinching" has been something that we're still working on. As a lock, the compression lock offers much, simple, reliable and strong, but it's still a very young lock and is still in development. That's why it hasn't been used more.

But we're determined and we've got a few ideas.

the "local joke" is that the "pinch" is a "wake-up-call" that a sharp edge is about.

Thanks for the shout out Sal. I have a many a Spydercos. I just don't dig the compression lock. Anyways I just wanted to said whats been said a million times, Thanks for making great knives, and standing behind them. O yeah I love my mini manix you guys have your work cut out for you if you want to ever top it. It is "THE KNIFE" for me, I just can't admit it to myself because then my search for "THE KNIFE" will be over, and now that not very fun is it?
 
I have had a few compression locks that pinched me. The Lil Temps was the worst, it actually hurt. The ATR and Salsa I had did it as well. What do all these knives have in common other than the compression lock? I got rid of them all.

I do have one of the new "S" knives and I love it. It would be better if it had any other type of lock of course but it doesn't pinch me at least. I will only buy a Spyderco with a compression lock if I have no other choice. I wanted the S so I had to get the stinking compression. It is my least liked lock by far.
 
i have had several compression locks (ie-gunting, ATR and a lil temp) and i have never had any pinching probs, i think my fingers are too thick to get pinched, i have read about this problem and was trying to get my Ti ATR to pinch me, could not do it.
 
i have the same problem with the ATR but as STR said it doesnt happen with the para which is my work EDC the yojimbo i have but cant comment as i dont use it much :eek:

this said the comp lock on the para is my favorite lock and is one of the reasons the para has been in pocket for longer than any other knife to date
 
I had a pinching problem, but I learned to keep my fingers clear of the lock whe opening.
