Howdy Spydy Fans,
I couldn't live w/ that wierd hump near the tip of the blade on the ATR. I asked a knifemaker friend who lives nearby to grind the hump off. Here it is w/ a new military hat. I like the change and will carry the knife a lot more than I used to carry it.

looks kind of like a Stretch blade.

I like the ATR blade myself because it's so different, but I have been wanting a Stretch for a while now.

I had a ti-atr for a while and was very tempted to have the blade ground into a clip point. I almost pulled the trigger on that several times, but couldn't bring myself to. I did have my jester ground down to more of a ladybug/clip-point though. You didn't have as much taken off as I had planned to, but it looks good. I never could understand what the hump was for and still don't. I asked around here once, but got no responces. Enjoy the knife.

Siggyhk,
I think the origninal ATR tip was shaped the way it was to increase tip strength during a piercing movement and/or stabbing motion. While the sharktooth tip might have increased strength, that tip didn't lend itself to any splinter-picking style chores. That was my beef w/ it.

Any particular reason you ask here? No, I don't think so, and I don't find any useful information on whois database.

Yeah, I got a warning from my security program that someone tried to access my computer. I was here at the time, in this forum in this thread. No where else. I just wondered if anybody else was getting pinged. It's the second time that's happened to me and I'm making a note so if it keeps happening it's easier to track down who did it. Joe

Probably someone from china. They're always spamming for open ports. If you have something like Zone Alarm detecting pings, you're gonna be getting them all the time (the alerts, that is). If you have a router, turn on its firewall, turn on your windows/mac/linux software firewall, and you should be protected from most common threats. I'm a computer guy, so you can trust me

Does look better that way. No harm in doing things to make a knife look better to you, work better for you, or both. I've had a few Spydies modified to better suit me.

Looks pretty good IMO. I didn't have a problem with the stock tip but that really doesn't look bad at all.

THG, I have both firewalls and anti virus software and typically "stay hidden". This was a dedicated attack on my computer that my system caught. Only the second since I got this computer and set it up, well over a year ago. Not the regular "pinging" for open ports. This utilized/attacked a microsoft weakness that you might know about, but was caught by my software. If you were officially investigating this I'd even send you the the name of the program they used, as well of the glitch this attacks. Joe

Bob7,
That seems so obvious about the tip strength, I almost feel stupid that I wondered about it. Really, now that I think about it, it's probably one of strongest tips Spyderco offers. Gives me a new appreciation for it, but I stil like it better ground down.
