I found an ATR SS PE for sale at around 80$ today and after handling it some I'm thinking about buying it. Had some concerns though.

1. It felt too easy to open for my preferences. Has this ever been problematic for anyone?

2. How does the knife work carried IWB?

3. Not that I do a lot of stabbing, but is the grip secure when doing so?

4. Any features in particular that stand out to you about this knife you do or don't like?

1. Mine opened up in pocket a few times.
2. Handle was too thin for my taste, and too slippery
3. Out of the three i had , they all had vertical play
4. Forget #4
Sorry im not a fan of the knife. I loved it untill i carried it for a week straight.

Matt

1. Yes

2. Bad idea

3. No idea

4. I don't like metal handles, tip up carry on knives with no closing bias to speak of, or Cobra Hoods that are wider than the handle.

My IWB carry experiment only cost me a shirt. I feel lucky it wasn't a kidney. The Cobra Hood waved the knife open before the clip cleared the waistband. People still wonder why I prefer tip down carry

I would rather the ATR have been tip down. Other than that I like mine very much. I like the frame lock, it is smooth. I like SS handles, but you have to be creative in getting them to be grippy, like grinding extra traction grooves and bead blasting. Over all I like my ATR.

I EDC a ATR I like it a lot but I carry in my right front pocket. The Cobra Hood allows a wave like opening if you twist so it catches on the way out, or it can be withdrawn straight out for normal opening.I have had to stab throu many odd objects with no issues re: the tip strength. I like the heavy clip I have never had to worry about it staying where I put it.

I liked the ATR so much I bought another a Ti for when I have to dress up :)

some of the early SS and Ti ATR's had detent issues but they fixed that, i have since had 3 Ti ATR's and 2 SS ATR's with out a single problem with this, i dont see any reason they wouldnt work fine IWB, the handle grip is very secure, if the ATR woulda been tip down i wouldnt have ever tried it, the ATR is imho one of the very best spydies ever, certainly without a doubt its my fav, Ti or SS version. i know i carry mine a lot more than any other spydie FWIW.
