:jerkit::jerkit: I am thinking about adding an ATR to my collection and would apreciate opinions from ATR owners as to how they like them.

The ATR is one of the few models I have "multiples" of - I bought an SE a few months ago, and liked it so much I added the PE recently before they disappeared. Both are stainless, though the titanium ones are very nice.

Both of mine open and close more smoothly than any other knife I own. They lock very positively, and the handle fits my hand very well. The serrations on the SE one look more aggressive than any other model I've seen.

In short, I am a fan of the ATR, and I'm sorry it was discontinued. You can find them at good prices now, but I imagine the supply will dry up in a few months.

the Ti ATR is my very favorite spydie, a great knife, the SS models are good too but the Ti is better imho, i have 2 Tis and a SS.

I'm a big fan of the ATR and have to confess I've got a couple of them including one in the EDC rotation. Give it a try while the price is right. I've got a hunch that these will go for a pretty penny down the road.

Thanks for the opinions, I am ordering a SE ATR in the morning. I like frame locks, simple, easy to clean, positive lock up, and smooth opening and closing. Spyderco is always creating investment possibilites. I have a NIB PE Gunting and 2 NIB Spyderflys in VG10 steel sitting in my safe.

i bet ya will the ATR is a helluva knife imho, i think it carries better in the pocket (its pretty thin) than most any other knife i can think of, feels good in the hand too, again, lol, my fav spydie.

on the ATR SE there is about 1/2" at the tip of a plain edge, there is enough there to do the small intricate cuts that you might need with a plain edge. out of the 2 i would go with a serrated one.

I have a ti pe atr. I have a love/hate relationship with it right now. It has blade play that can't be repaired by the factory (not really a big deal, but it drives me nuts). I've offered it for trade, but no-one bit. I'm trying to live with it, as it's still very smooth to open and does have a nicely shaped handle. I have faith in the lock also.
I've seen the stainless ones are going for pretty low prices lately and think they're a great value. I do like the considerable length of plain edge at the tip on the serrated version too. Almost 25/75. In the end, I usually try to stick with pe though. The black ones always caught my eye too, but I'm not sure how they hold up personally.

One thing about the knife that I've wondered, after hearing it has an origin involving MBC, is what's the idea behind the blade shape? Perticularly, is there a specific reason behind the bump? on the spine? I've considered grinding it into more of a basic spyderco shape before, but don't want to reduce any collecable value it might have. Anyone know about that? Thanks.

I love my ATR SE. It's really smooth and I love the cobra hood (basically a thumb disk, but I like thumb disk). I got the SE as I wanted a do it all knife, cutting anything I need. Tho my EDCs are PE for ease of maintenance and what I need to cut on a regular basis, SE and CE are more useful for me as all-around knives. Build is solid, as is lockup. I haven't gotten used to releasing the lock one-handed yet, so I need 2 hands, but still one of my favorite knives. Looks really mean.

It is a hard coating though. Feels like a phosphate coating, but is not.
I love the ATR in PE, the SE teeth seem a little shallow

My SE ATR is scheduled for delivery next Wednesday. If the handle is to shnny or slick, I could have it sand blasted.

I received my SE ATR yesterday and I am very pleased. I have not found anything to complain about. Thanks for all the input, all your opinions are right on the money. I plan on adding another ATR before they are gone.
