ATR vs PMillie vs BM Ares vs BM 520

I'm aiming for plain edge. I just prefer PE for most stuff I cut. How long is the blade? (edge length) Since BM has nothing I like right now (well, the Ares, that's about it), I think I'll go with one of the Spydies. Wish there was an AXIS CQC8

GarageBoy, have you given any thought to the Spyderco Scorpius? i realise that it's SS handles are not enjoyed by all, but with that choil and the scoop in the belly of the handle, you should have a very positive grip. along with that, the price is very reasonable.

from Spyderco's website: "Spyderco's Eric Glesser blueprinted it as an urban tactical utility knife. For city carry he felt it had to be ergonomically refined and sized so it wouldn't generate adverse reaction or legal issues when taken out and used in public. He also felt the knife should be uncommonly comfortable in the hand and effectively cut anything put to it."

i like this knife a whole lot, and i think it's very often overlooked. the VG-10 steel is awesome, as you're well aware, and the butt of the handle makes a great impact device. the tip is thick but the 3" blade should suit you well for everyday cutting tasks also. lastly, because it's a lockback, you won't be accused of flicking.

ah, nuts. it just occured to me... are you a lefty, GB?

Not a Lefty and I can operate with both hands. (never had a prob with liner locks) Everything I've owned have been lockbacks so I want a chage. I did handle the scopius, but if I was getting that I might just get the ZDP Caly. Thanks

given any thought to holding off and purchasing a 707 when it comes out? that seems very close to what you're after. you avoid the recurve of the 710 (which is too bad, i love my 710! :D), you get a nice, legal 2.95" blade, aluminum scales with G10 inlays, AND the axis. i want one myself, but in a ~4" size... maybe they'll bring out a 717.

i should probably stop suggesting stuff you're not asking about. ;)

3.5" blade would be perfect. I'm leaning towards the ATR if the pivot can be cranked down enough to stop flickablity

garageboy, I just checked my para. can't flick it open (well, at least I can't). email sent.

well, if you want more face-time with the ATR, ask John to stick you on the end of the passaround that's up right now.

I adjusted the pivot on my Para and it's possible to flip it open. Wasn't before the adjustment.

Hello GarageBoy:

In Boston you don't need to be any particular age for LEO concerns, given our stupid blade-length law. It's to provide justification after the fact (and that's been in print) so I hear your complaint.

I often pair my Calypso Jr with a Native II. FRN with S30v, great ergos, etc. I can always make the argument that the Native's handle and larger/thicker blade allow for heavier cutting--such as I do at work (knives to and from work are OK, go figure). If the Native is confiscated, I'm not going to be nearly as upset as I would If my ATR, Para, or any other "premium" piece was taken.

I'd agree with Frank K on the "deep pocket carry." To further prevent concerns I've added a micron light and lanyard to the Caly Jr, and use it as a moneyclip. The Native stays buried in an inner pocket of my courier bag for 99% of the time.

Best regards.
