Real quick, what is the difference? I am having trouble finding information and the knife I am considering comes in both. Thanks for any help.

Real Quick......OK.........

ATS-34 is a good knife steel when heat treated properly and has good corrosion resistance.

M2 is a great tool steel, has excellent edge holding ability. It is used in manufacturing to cut other steels! But..... It needs to have a coating or it will rust very easy.

I would consider D2!! Better edgeholding than ATS-34 and more corrosion resistant than M2!!!! Just my 2 cents....

This is brief but I hope it helps!

as usual, neil is right...a lot of knife companies used m2 back in the seventies.. i think even bob loveless used it for a while, but no one does now, thats gotta tell you something...it rusts like crazy. but there are some other factors that enter in...i would stick with a proven steel imho.

i'm gonna use m-2 with small knives, o-1 rusts more that it, it has better edge holding than d-2 and can take a better edge. i'm also using 440v. it depends on the knife you want to make.

O.K. folks, Benchmade is the brand, Nimravus is the knife. Can I assume that BM knows how to keep M2 from rusting?? I hope so because I really like the knife. Thanks in advance.
