Yes, by ~ .100 ............. good eye  The scale is a bit more forward on one too. Which do you like ? I know ........ not fair
With the different scales it's like apples to oranges ;)

Just finished a Hunter for a guy in Germany that's modeled after Herrons Drop Point # 6. Antique Gold Micarta Scales
It was REALLY nice !! Shoot me your e-mail addy for pics if you like :)

Bravo!!! LOVEIN' THOSE :)

Thanks a lot Brian

I originally started making them with my Camp Knife Set in '08.
Its such a nice little blade though, with a little mod I started to offer them alone last fall.
Great little Part-ridge knife ;)

David..I'll take the Micarta..

You got her  ;)

I sent a PM with paypal info and also an email with pics of the Herron Style Hunter

Thanks :)

Both of these are very nice.

Congrats to stillsurfing - I also prefer the look of the forward scales as on the Micarta version.

Thank you very much Hillbillenigma.

I think I do too. I might have to make it a permanent mod :)

Hi Dr. !! So nice to hear from you :)
Yes, this time of year always finds us snowed in

Thank you for the thumbs up on the knives.

Everything is back in line and click'in again ;)

David,
What is the knife in the clip on sheath in the picture with the Camp/Caper combo?

Thanks,
Jay

Very nice little knives. I like the camp knife also.

Scott

Thank you very much :)

Hi Jay,

The knife shown below the Camp set is a filet knife. I included a couple of pics for you. One shows the filet knife, the other shows an inside the sheath shot. I took that pic to show the kydex liner, which I first form to the filet knife for a snap fit. Next I wet mold the leather over the kydex and sew it up tight for a nice fit, then give it a coat of neatsfoot oil. It makes for a really nice filet knife sheath. IMHO, long, slim, pointy Filet knives are good candidates for slicing through the side of a pouch style sheath if not careful. The kydex liner helps prevent that

David,

I am NEW to knives (like, just started getting into knives and building my collection like 3 months ago!). Came across your name in the Knives Illustrated magazine (March issue if I remember correctly). Really liked Gus from the picture in the magazine.

But checking out your website, the camp knife with the sidekick looks great too!

What's the difference between Gus and the Camp Knife? Which is more suited for heavy use? And can the Gus come with a sidekick?

Thanks!
Wong

Hi Wong,

The difference between the GUS and the Camp Knife is in construction technique, the GUS uses Full Tapered Tang Construction, while the Camp Knife uses Stick Tang Construction.
There is also a difference in Blade type. The GUS is a Drop Point Design, while the Camp Knife is a Clip Point Design.

Both knives are extremely tough, time proven methods of knife construction. I think you could get into a heated discusion when it comes to which is better.
Although the stick tang may appear to be the weaker of the two designs, I have yet to have one fail, and I've personally beat the tar out of more than a few, trying my best to do just that. I also have quite a few in the field with nary a failure
One thing I'll say about the GUS full tang. If, and I mean if, the handle scales were to ever come off, you could always make an improvised handle from cordage, duct tape, etc. whereas the stick tang may be a bit more difficult to do that with.

Yes, I would be happy to make a Camp Set for you using the GUS rather than the stick tang constructed Camp Knife shown.

Here are a few pics showing the differences in the GUS and the Camp Knife.
