I'm reading the Tactical Knife by Bob Terzuola, and he states that he changed from D2 to ATS-34 because D2 isn't as corrosion resistant, but CTS-XHP aka Stainless D2 should solve the problem, right? So how does CTS-XHP compare to D2?
Also, is there an "upgraded" version of D2?

CTS XHP is a great steel that will outperform D2 and ATS 34 by a big margin in edge holding while being similar to ATS 34 in stain resistance. Also, being a PM steel is has superior toughness to either

Based upon an extremely limited sample of one knife each in D2 and CTS XHP, of course by different makers, different blade grinds, heat treat, etc. but sharpened to the same angle and grit...I favor CTS XHP by a small margin. D2 is a great steel, but for my uses XHP holds an edge a bit longer, and takes a "keener" edge. YMMV
