tag "more results" also.
I have a Police second in that steel. I live near Golden and went to the first several second sales. They had a store called Ironstone and it sold all brands of knives and when they decided get rid of all the non-Spyderco knives they had a sale. Knife heaven!
I don't know a lot about older spyderco's so thank you for posting that page. One of the models I really like is the C46. Why was it discontinued?

I actually own a C-46 Lum Tanto folder that I actually carry and use on some occasions. I had never liked "Tanto" style blades until I actually used one of the Bob Lum's great designs>> it totally changed the way I felt about tanto designs and showed me that certain tanto designs are actually good for everyday uses. The very first generation of the C-46 Lum Tanto folder was made in ATS-55 ( which is the one I own and use) and then later on they switched to making them in VG-10.

That is one of the highlights of the ATS-55 era>> they used that steel on some of their more celebrated unique models. The only G-10 Harpy they ever blessed us with was done in ATS-55. To me it's one of the most unique and special eras in Spyderco History. And again I have a few ATS-55 models that I still use>> and I doubt if I ever get rid of them. Really I like ATS-55 just as good as I do VG-10.

Most Spyderco models are eventually discontinued. Only a select few stay in production. Sometimes they go back to an old model for a SPRINT run with a different steel and or handle material. But I think it's just "variety is the spice of life" and Spyderco has more models than other knife companies.

Great point, well taken>> And how many Sprint Runs did we get from the ATS-55 era>> I don't have the numbers myself but markets don't lie. Because if you try to buy one of those classics out of the ATS-55 era and I'm mainly speaking about one still new in the factory box you are going to put a serious dent in your wallet. Even a used model like the G-10 Harpy or Stainless RESCUE would be a healthy 3 digits at that.

Also I've had a thread here on this Spyderco "sub-forum" here at Bladeforums and it was about which era that you as a Spyderco fan, user, collector, maker or afficionado deem as the GOLDEN ERA of SPYDERS. For me JD SPYDO I've always maintained that the time slot of 1998 to 2003 as being thee GOLDEN ERA of SPYDERS. And I'm truly thinking of extending it out to 2004 because of 4 really super classics from that year.

And that GOLDEN ERA of SPYDERS (1998 to 2004) would include all of the ATS-55 era>> and for darn good reason. And I bet I got more folks that agree with me than disagree :cool:
