Attaching a buttcap *UPDATED WITH PHOTOS PLUS FINISHED KNIFE*

When I said "brazing" I meant hard soldering with a MAPP torch and hard silver solder. Sorry for my misuse of the terminology. ;) As for threading, if the tang is not too hard, O wold just grind it rond and thread, but do it gently. The other way I do it is to slot a piece of all thread drill a hole and pin it to the thinned down tang to make a clevis. That makes lining up the buttcap a lot easier. You still get a physical connection and the epoxy firms everything up. You can even use a rod that is wider than your tang. Just install the guard first or blind the sides of the all thread rod a little flat.

That's interesting. Is the clevis still able to wiggle a little after you pin it?

Way to go man, success! Shoptalk succeeds again. Now you have another trick in your bag!

Exactly! I'll be trying more of these methods in the future. Thanks again!

Yes, that is the idea. by pivoting and even wiggling a bit side to side, it makes snug the buttcap up to the end of the handle easy. Obviously you can't do that method without filling up the hole with epoxy for the final assembly. ;)

I'm trying to figure out the best way to attach a wrought iron buttcap to a hidden tang knife with a bog oak handle. I've come across a few ideas but I'm looking for a little advice on what might work best. I can't tap holes and I'm probably not going to be soldering anything, so what are my options?

*****UPDATE*****

Here are some photos of my solution plus images of the finished knife

Thanks again for all of the help and advice from everyone!
The pics do not come through for me. Anyone know why?

I see 'em...and I'm very impressed, excellent work:thumbsup::)

Thanks for the compliments guys! I'm glad I've learned to listen to people who know much more than I do.
