Attaching boot clip to a sheath?

Any tips on attaching one in such a way that it won't contact the blade?

Clip looks like this, I'm guessing the hole is for a rivet:

Two ways either sew extra piece of leather on outside of sheath which will mount and cover the clip or cut the holes in sheath to mount clip and then put a liner to cover the clip on inside of sheath.

This slip sheath is made of three layers of 4-5oz. The back part of the clip is sandwiched between two layers, no metal comes in contact with the knife.
