Attaching Handles Without Glue

I have made some for this knife. It is really easy to make. Cut a piece of brass rod about 1/2" dia. and drill center and tap suitable to the hex bolts. You may need to shorten the bolts. Drill the 1/2" holes on the tang. Thats all... I guess there are some pre-made rivets like those but these cost me nothing :D

Galldium,

Thanks. Such a good and easy solution. Sometimes my brain just freezes up looking for harder ways to do easy things:)

Are the bolts readily available at hardware stores?

John, I'm pretty sure those are available at USA knifemaker's supply.

You can buy those bolts at just about any Ace, True Value, or most other hardware stores. They are black oxide 82 degree, flat head bolts. Most of the time you can find them in the little cardboard pull out drawers that are in the "hardware" section of the store. Our local Ace Hardware carries them in everything from 4-40 up to 1/2-13.

I use 3/16" folder pivot barrels and 6-32 screws from USA Knifemaker's Supply. If you want them larger you can use the 1/4" barrels and 8-32 screws. I have found that retail hardware stores usually charge ridiculous prices for these types of fasteners unless you can buy them in bulk, and often I have to go to more than one store to find what I am looking for. I prefer to spend my $ with Tracy and my time in the workshop.

Thanks Ed and Justin. I went down to the local hardware store and found a bunch of useful stuff.

I will also likely wind up giving USA Knifemaker's a bit of business.
