Attaching the ESEE Fire Kit to a RC-4 sheath?

Good evening guys :)

For quite some time I am using the RC-4 and can say nothing bad about it:D

Due to the limitations in length over here in Germany I am only allowed to carry a rather small blade like that outside in the woods without getting trouble ;)

Preparing for some longer trips I am thinking about ordering the ESEE FireKit cause it just sounds awesome and the reviews I read support that first impression.

Unfortunately I am new to this forum and been quite stunned by all the different sections so I thought to just post in here and ask for some help :)

So what is this thread about?

I like have the major survival stuff close to my body so I plan to somehow attach this FireKit to the sheath of my knive... I prefer to carry the knive on the Jump-proof back plate so this might add a chance to get the kit properly attached...

For sure I could just use some tape or another "ugly" solution but from what I've seen on pictures on this forum there are a lot of creative guys out there :p

Feel free to spam me with your ideas and maybe there are some good projects out there ;)

Greetings from Germany

Guruthos

to the mods: if you think there is a more appropriate section for this, please feel free to move my thread, thanks :)

I used a ranger band to put my firekit on my Junglas sheath. I'm sure you could also use paracord to attach it to a sheath. The pack kit that can be attached to your sheath has an elastic web that can also be used. Hope that gives you a few ideas.

Wilkommen Guruthos! A lot of guys have a small piece of kydex molded with 1-2 screw holes that will attach right to your sheath. It's basicly a flat piece that gets looped around so you just slide the striking rod end inside and hold it down with some cord. Maybe one of the guys that has one on his sheath can post a pic up here for you. I'd send Shotgunner11 here on the forum a mesg and ask him in regards to the price for one. Hope this helps and welcome!

Wow guys, thanks for those fast answers:thumbup:

The Kydex-solution really sounds interesting, especially because its in line with the style of the sheath and should be more secure than just wrap it around with some 550 :)

Need to get up in like 5h for work so I will be back on the forums later:rolleyes:

Thanks again for the fast response and feel free to spam me with shots of such a kydex job or others you've done to your RC-4 sheaths ;)

The above mentioned ranger-band method:

this is one awesome set-up! makes me want a junglas right now!!

to the OP...i just used a split ring and paracord to attach a fire steel to my esee-5...

Thank you guys for those great information, especially Rich275 for the link-collection.

What I found to be the most interesting so far is THIS solution... It kinda hits what I had in mind and the addition of an Altoids-kit is something I will really take into consideration ;)

Next thing to do is get in contact to ESEERATFAN to get more details about this lil project and find a dealer to ship the stuff to Germany asap ;) The prices over here for the FireKit f.e. are just crazy :D

Thank you sir, you will have a mail soon ;)

By the time I get hands on the 5/6 pouch an the FireKit I will upload a pic of my project, dig up that thread and share it with you ;)

Now I only need to find a good source to ship the stuff to Germany :)

Seems like you guys and this forum just collected another soul (me!!!), this community rocks

Nice solution as well, did the Kydex sheathing yourself? Wondering how much this would cost me ;)

Still unsure which position of the FireKit I would prefer...

Yes I made myself.

It's very simple, you need the Kydex, two slabs of wood, foam (camping mats), a heat gun, a hacksaw, clamps, a file and rivets.

There are many tutorials on youtube.

The price depends on the tools you have at home.

A lime? Please explain as I have never tried working with kydex.

Thanks for the email ESEERATFAN, seems like you got me with your project and I need to find an international dealer for the items needed ;)

The pouch is out of stock in the only german shop that has it listed until about february... Kinda hard to find an international dealer with fair shipping costs and all the items I am looking for :grumpy:

Due to you guys and all the nice pics I am thinking about an Izula now :D Besides that my GF finally found her intest into knifes as well... Guess what? Pink Izula INCOMING :p

I made this out of kydex. It looks good from a galloping horse, but I'm not Shotgunner11 when it comes to kydex.

Really, a ranger band might work just as well. Or you could add a small pouch to the outside.
