Recommendation? Attempting to craft 7" blade from unknown steel

Lol this guy got in an elevator full of people, farted, and got out.
I laughed out loud.

If OP is asking a serious question, and not trolling, I'm all for giving as much advice as the question merits, though there are certainly better alternatives if the end goal is a fully functional blade. That said, when these first time posters show up and ask these kinds of questions with these kinds of details and then bail out, I can't help but wonder if it's a past forum member who got banned or whatever, trying to have some fun at our expense. :D

Let's all just sit back and stop posting. This chap has only been a member for a few days. Give him some time. He could be working the long weekend as a fireman, be deployed as a serviceman and a bit pre-occupied right now, or being punished by his folks for breaking curfew - we don't know.

If he tries some of the things suggested, he may come back when he has something to update us with. If he comes back and fills out his profile with a location and other info, he may get a bar of good steel offered to him for free.

I would say the ball is in his court now, so lets stop swinging our rackets at the air and wait for his return.
