Can everyone who is new to CRK please go to this youtube video and pause it exactly at 4:57 (4 minutes and 57 seconds), or just part-way through 4:56.

This knife in the video was hand selected by CRK to represent the perfect Sebenza (in fact it is so very perfect they actually keep it in a climate controlled safe and no one can handle it but Chris or Anne :D).

While looking at the image at 4:56/4:57, please compare your lock-up to the world's most perfect Sebenza pictured in the video. When I compare mine I am disappointed that my lock-up is way too early on all of six of my 21s. Shucks, you win some you lose some I guess ;). Hopefully with enough wrist-flicking mine will be a little more like the perfect Sebenza!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

A good idea and well needed as of recently. Thank you for linking it.

Here's a screenshot of the lockup in that video for reference. None of my CRKs have a lockup that deep, either.

None of my 21's or regulars are like that. The 25 I sold was close tho.:rolleyes:. Glad none of mine are perfect like the 1 in the vid.

My snake wood annual is closest. Nice to know the fancier ones get a little extra TLC 😀

Oh my goodness... I recently bought my first Sebenza, and my new small 21 locks up much earlier than that. maybe I should send it in, I don't wanna risk it closing on my poor little fingers. ;) j/k

Excellent post, and thanks for sharing

A 25 or Umnumzaan that looks like that is actually locking up 20-30% earlier due to the offset location of the ceramic detent.

I just picked up my first Sebenza 21 the other day and I must say I almost regret buying it because now I want another one.

For the prices paid for CRK knives. I would think, they should all lock up like that. And I'm sure you can't dismantle it, to hone the locking mechanism. Because doing so would void any warranty I'm sure. Very nice lock up though.

Uhhhhhh....... Couple things

CRKs are some of the only knives that CAN be disassembled without voiding the warranty

The lockup doesnt need to be "honed" if it's a little earlier than this "perfect example". It's absolutely fine

]I missed the part where this is mentioned in the video. How do we know this?

You didn't miss anything....just a 21 rotating at 360 degrees. You can see the 95% lockup as the knife if you watch closely. Chris didn't say anything.

Sorry guys, this post was meant to have some humour in it, but that doesn't always translate. So please pardon my poor jokes, but the fact remains that the official CRK shop tour vid shows a very nice new 21 with very late lock-up. I don't know if this was intentional, but it proves a point.

I apologise for my poor read of your OP, Cody. :o

I guess I've reached the point of feeling over-saturated after reading so many myths, hyperbole, and strong opinions regarding CRK (from both pro and con camps); it's sometimes difficult for me to separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. Somewhere between the opinions of the rabid zealots and staunch detractors lies the truth of the legendary Sebenza... ;)

Thanks for adding that screen shot of just the lockup. None of mine lockup that late. But all do lockup nice and solid, with no movement or stick. I don't try any flipping stuff with my knives either. Don't see why I'd need to. But that's just me. No disrespect meant to those who do.

I mention that as I've read on the forums that flipping can influence the lockup on your knife. Dunno if you can even flip a CRK, or even if that's actually true for sure.

In a few other makers forums, some users would be going crazy if their knife had that late of lockup. :D

CRKs and Hinderers are 2 of the very few knives that i remotely EVER worry about their lockup. To know that CRK will make good on ANY issue i have is very comforting. I just use the knife and enjoy the quality.

I like early lock up. That lock is way to much for my liking. It is a preference thing, the lockup in the pic may be fine for some.

Honestly, I disagree. Then again, I am far from being Chris Reeve. I idolize the man............To me there is no room for wear. I pass on Sebenzas that have over 60% lockup. I have never ever ever come close to wearing a lock out and I have carried sebenzas for years. Chris will always get my vote and my $$$ as they make the finest folders $$$ can buy. I have had Strider, Hinderer, William Henry just to name a few high end knives and nothing compares to CRK. Just my personal opinion of course. I am just picky I guess when contemplating a Sebenzas because of my 50% lockup fetish.....lol.

Thanks for the post Cody.....!!!

I totally agree with what you are saying Nyefmaker. That Sebenza in the vid does look pretty darn late even by CRK standards. I guess my intention (along with some misguided sarcasm) was to show that CRK considers these late lock-ups to be normal for their products, and in general most folk will receive a new CRK with much earlier lock-up that the one show-cased in that great Blade HQ vid. The post is sorta a plea for everyone new to these knives to set their minds at ease on the subject and be thankful they got one at 75% and not 95%. I've got one 21 that came at about 85% (and has stayed there), and the rest sit around 60-75%. Nothing I have ever purchased from them has been close to 50%.

Anyways.......for the money these knives are the best, and nothing is quite like them, you have that absolutely right....

I pity any knife-nut who lets an early lock-up fetish prevent them from letting this bad-boy find a home in their pocket! Large Insingo.....so sweet!!
