Attention all CRK newbs: RE Lock-up......a plea from a fan!

Great post Cody, and nice looking knife btw!

I think the one in the video was just to make a point.
Having owned two 21 models, both were at 50% and the first was a user and just stayed there. My current one is 51% ;) I thought it was earlier but I was mistaken. These are just about perfect for me, but really the main thing I care about is how solid it is and how smooth it disengages.
Although CRK has a great warranty I hope I never have to send mine in. And if I take care of the lock and treat it with respect. I have all the spare parts I need to fix this puppy in the future. I would love to hand this down to my grandkid someday.

I totally agree with what you are saying Nyefmaker. That Sebenza in the vid does look pretty darn late even by CRK standards. I guess my intention (along with some misguided sarcasm) was to show that CRK considers these late lock-ups to be normal for their products, and in general most folk will receive a new CRK with much earlier lock-up that the one show-cased in that great Blade HQ vid. The post is sorta a plea for everyone new to these knives to set their minds at ease on the subject and be thankful they got one at 75% and not 95%. I've got one 21 that came at about 85% (and has stayed there), and the rest sit around 60-75%. Nothing I have ever purchased from them has been close to 50%.

Anyways.......for the money these knives are the best, and nothing is quite like them, you have that absolutely right....

I pity any knife-nut who lets an early lock-up fetish prevent them from letting this bad-boy find a home in their pocket! Large Insingo.....so sweet!!

Most of my sebenzas are of the regular variety, though I have bought more 21's lately, mainly because the regulars are few and far inbetween. With them being regulars, 50% was pretty much the norm. I think the only regulars I have that are more than 50% are my annuals and they are at like 60-75%. Its what I have been used too, so got spoiled.....lol.

Uhhhhhh....... Couple things
CRKs are some of the only knives that CAN be disassembled without voiding the warranty
The lockup doesnt need to be "honed" if it's a little earlier than this "perfect example". It's absolutely fine

Good to hear that no warranty is voided. I assumed it had a similar policy as a shirogorov (I think). Not that it would matter to me. If I dish the money for a keeper, all bets are off. My last DSA sword got a file-diamond sharpening, with in three days. It had a 2mm edge because I didn't order sharpening. Nor would I trust it to shipping again.

As far as the frame lock goes. I was just teasing these guys a little bit. For heralding the locking mechanism. My old as dirt $12 frame lock kershaw, doesn't fully lock up. It sticks as a matter of fact. No play either way and I prefer it too.

This thread needs a bump. I'll add my thoughts if it matters...

I don't think that the lockup on that knife looks to be within CRK spec. If you watch part 2 of the exquisite blade, they use a gauge to judge both early and late lockup, i.e. within range.

There was certainly a little irony/humour intended in this old thread when I started it. I agree the knife in the video looks a little late, but my point at the time was, you will likely look at your new Sebenza and find the lock-up is much earlier that what is shown in a CRK approved vid, so no worries.
