Attention Bargain Shoppers

Hi,

Most definitely Rick, consistent quality costs. I was trying to be tongue-in-cheek comparing it to a custom. And I think SMKW/RR deserves kudos for binging this knife out. And I'm hoping for more.

I'm glad you removed the bolsters. I was going to take them off myself. Now I don't have to. Thanks!:) And it's good to hear that the edge holds up well.

I'm going to be dropping it my pocket to give it a good workout. I think I'm going to be happy with it.

My first thougth was made in china roughrider. It's like a diet of rice beans, it'll make a turd. It'll cut. I don't think I'd paid $25 for it, but that's just me.

Thanks, Silverdagger.

Aside from the obvious eloquence and insight displayed in your commentary, I was particularly taken by your predilection for the clever use of metaphoric imagery. As an aspiring literary neophyte, it's gratifying to know that talent such as yours isn't being squandered.

Great photos; never would have considered it from the catalog pics but will definately order one based on your photos. I don't care what anyone says that bone is pretty.

I kinda like it, too. The deep jigging makes for a grippy handle, the color is rich and even on both sides, and there are no objectionable sharp edges or burrs (one of my GECs had a small burr in the jigging that was almost sharp enough to draw blood or chip out, but it was an easy task to file it down).

My main concern about this knife is the long term durability of the lockbar spring and blade pivot. If either of them give up the ghost, the knife is toast. OTOH, I'm reasonably convinced at this early stage in the game that the quality of the steel and heat treat on my sample are higher than I have any right to expect from a $20 damascus knife.

Good luck - hope you get a 'good' one. :)

The supplier I found won't ship to Australia. :(

If anyone can help an Aussie bloke out with forwarding some of these, I'd love 4 of them for my work mates and I

Happy to pay extra for the help!

Thanks,

Steve.

Clearly exceptional value, I'm just not a fan of knives with screws, nice proportions too!

If anyone can assist, please take further discussion to email or PM rather than pursue it here. Thank you.

This is a freakin' Rough Rider RR1021 that cost all of $19.99. They're also available in a larger 4"-closed version for a whopping $24.99. Honestly, if I didn't know better, I'd would've guessed that this knife sold for around four times the asking price.

Thanks for pointing this one out. Got me curious enough to try one and it came today.
While not quite as nice as yours, still pretty impressive at the price.
Mine is slightly off center, and the damascus pattern does not fill the blade as yours does, but minor points at this price. Overall f&f are very good.
Obviously hasn't had a lot of use yet, but it did digest the corrugated cardboard box it shipped in pretty well. :D

To see how this one compared to other RR items, I also ordered a couple more:
- RR581 Sowbelly with Brown Gunstock Jigged Bone Handle $13
- RR182 "Fancy" Lockback with Wood Handle $10! (In this case fancy meaning it had some semi-decent etching on the bolsters.)

The f&f of those was comparable. The wood handle on the RR182 was attractive and nicely formed.
All very decent for the price.
As someone else pointed out, one great benefit to the RR line is being able to see how various patterns suit you at minimal cost.
