Hey everyone, I have been thinking of starting up a small online business/side job of making/selling paracord products such as bracelets, knife lanyards, etc. 10% of all profits will be directly donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. What do you guys think of this? I am just looking for some extra pocket cash as well as wanting to give back to those who have served. Please give me your Beckerhead thoughts. Also, if you do think this is a cool idea, possible company names? Feel free to post all you want. Thanks!!

EDIT: I NEED to establish a company name soon! Please post your ideas!

I like the Idea, business might be a little slow starting at first (a lot of people make and sell paracord stuff) but once you make a name for yourself I'm sure you'll do alright.

For a company name, how about 'Knots For Vets'.

Also, Wambo's point is valid, there are a lot of people selling paracord stuff. But if you have a unique style to couple with your great cause you could still do alright.

suggestion: have a small product (like a key fob or something) for a dollar or two that has at least 50% profit go to wounded warrior. this will help build your name with a few key target consumer groups
1: people who tie their own cord and just want to support wounded warrior and a start up (likely to refer you to their friends who aren't good with cord)
2: people with limited funds but big hearts (once they have some cash or really need a product you sell they are more likely to buy from you)

and a few others but you get my point also look into vending paracord from a US producer/supplier for us beckerheads that go through paracord like its going out of style.

@Wambo When you say vending paracord from a US supplier, do you mean buying and reselling hanks of paracord?

yeah I knot most of my own stuff and use it for hammocking and stuff. I try to buy US made cord as much as I can and I wouldn't mind paying a little more to support wounded warriors. And you may be able to get wholesale prices from manufacturers once you get enough notoriety to warrant that much volume (so you could buy wholesale sell at a profit minus WW donations)

Alright, Yeah that would be cool once the company grows a little bit! Thanks

"Knots for Vets"! Thats a pretty good one. I like "Straps for Vets" as well! Everyone keep it coming! All input is appreciated!

To be honest, you'd have to put out a really good product to compete, even with the WWP donations. It's something that is a bit of a saturated market, considering the fact that you can learn almost everything about it from a coyote of guys on YouTube. I like what you're doing, but it will take some good planning and marketing.

Yeah, especially with Survival Straps. Even if the business stays smaller I am fine with that. I know it is close to impossible to compete with Survival Straps. They are huge. I was thinking $10 for normal commerical 550 cord bracelet, or $15 for REAL military 550 cord bracelet.

here are some tips, your fingers are gonna get so blistered up that it's gonna hurt after awhile... what I did it I would wrap athletes tape "white roll" on all 10 of my fingers, that helps so much and your fingers are saved. mini blow tourch is 100x's better than a bic or a zippo for finishing your cut ends, 2 leather jumbo needles is almost a must for some of those tricky knots... I hope this helps.

Thank you so much. Good tips

+1.. It will be tough to make any $$

I understand. I am not planning on making this a primary source of income; but rather a way to make a little bit of pocket change as well as supporting the wounded warriors.

I guess the real question is your definition of "a little bit of pocket change". It could be VERY little after the bills are paid:D

But-

Your intentions are good and if you are willing to put some hard work into it, it should make a bit of $$. Also, BE CREATIVE with weaves patterns designs and colors. USE YOUR IMAGINATION- be creative . Treat it is as an artistic exercise and you might find a niche others have not discovered. There are many colors of paracord and many patterns. Also, women like this stuff too, Get color ideas and advice from ladies with an eye for color. Don't do "me too" stuff find a new way to fill a common need.

I wish you all the best in the endeavor and keep us all posted.

Thank you so much Jim! Believe it or not, so far I feel that women are the ones who have been the most interested! haha. But of course, PINK!

My real deciding factor is whether to get commercial 550 cord, or to buy AUTHENTIC Mil-C-5040H 550 Cord. I may go ahead and offer both to customers for different price points like I stated above.

Lastly, this is a message to all! I STILL NEED A COMPANY NAME! KEEP THE IDEAS COMING!!!

Thanks, Brenden
