I just wanted to encourage the beginner knife makers and offer a little help. I understand accumulating supplies can get kind of expensive in the beginning. To help you get started I can send you some knife handle scales or blocks for free as long as you can pay the postage.

I cut a lot of real nice burl and figured knife handle wood and end up with a bit that is nice, but not really spectacular. If you would like to get some to learn with just let me know if you need scales or blocks. I can usually fit 2 or 3 in a flat rate envelope for shipping so US shipping would be $5, Canada $10.

This offer is for beginners only. I don't have the extensive knife making experience to share that a lot of the other members have, but I do have wood.

How to pay for the shipping

For beginning knifemakers I can send a couple pair of scales or blocks. To pay shipping use paypal. My address for payment is itsaburl@hotmail.com Be sure when you make payment to check the payment type goods and in the notes section mention this is for the beginner knife maker wood. Indicate whether you want scales or blocks. Shipping in the US is $5, Canada $10. I will ship the wood a couple times during the week by priority mail so they will get there pretty quickly.

Make a post in this thread as well and I will also make a post when your wood is sent out.

Very cool of you BS!!!

If I didnt already have some much wood I would have taken you up on that offer.

Someone is going to get lucky.

Good on you!!!

Have a safe and Happy New Year:thumbup:

Chris

Well I still haven't made a complete knife as of yet, and I'm seemingly compelled to stock up on wood, if I can get in on this I'm all for it. Let me know if I make the cut. Either way thanks for doing this

Me please!

I'm getting ready to bevel my first blade this weekend. Some scales would be great, as I haven't figured out what wood I want to use yet.

Thanks,
Wade

Fletch Helical, You have already turned into a wood junkie. I will try to be sure to always add extras with your weekly purchases.

Wade, I will set aside a few different sets of scales for you.

I would like to take you up on this offer. I have not made my own blade yet but have the bug. I did put scales (G11) on a Spyderco Mule and it has led me down the road to wanting to try my hand at making the knife. Thank you for the offer, there is so much to purchase, my wife did buy me a craftmans 2X42 for Christmas ( i know not ideal but it's a start). Trying to put together a small forge, they really intrigue me!

Mark,
I’m still in single digits on knives and learning with each one. A mix of scales and blocks (or all blocks I can cut those down into scales) would be nice. I made my first hidden tang knife the other day. That was interesting! PM me with shipping cost paypal or I can mail a check. Being this close to Ohio I guess buckeye burl would be ironic. Rocklers is good but I can never find anything with any figure to it.
Thanks,
Ray

mark this is a generous offer indeed! thanks!

i am trying to put scales on my first blade worth doing so. bone, and not sure if it is going my way. haha. i have a second blank that i think will be good enough to see through to the finish on standby.

some burl would be nice to check out.

thanks again.

Just so you know, it would be advisable to modify the platen on that. I tried using the one on there even after hearing people talk about the need to do so, just to see how bad it was. Do yourself a favor and don't waste any steel with the platen the way it is.

Mark I could use a few more sets of scales!!!

I am a noob, Still working on my first knife......which I am putting the California Red Gum Eucalyptus on that you just sent me.

I would be more than grateful for any scales you could send me.
my email is bigern26@gmail.com

Mark--great people ya is--thanks man-for offering that to the new fellas. New fellas be warned you may get addicted ( like me) and find you cant help but to get on burl sources threads and just start buying wood like a junkie!!!lol--marekz

I would be in for this, when would you need the money by? thats $10us to canada right?
I already have the chunk of redwood from merekz (nice Chrismasy Avatar BTW) and a piece of walnut that was given to me by a friend, so what little I have is dark. I wouldn't mind some lighter wood, but anything will do.

I'm in, Burl Source. I'm planning to start my first knife next week. How do I pay and give my information?

This is very cool of you and obviously the kind of thing someone never forgets.

I am a Newbie ... joined this forum about a month ago. I have only completed (3) knives so far but have been busy with request from friends. I have (5) more ready to go ... just need to decide what to do for the scales & or handle.
I have one I expect back from HT (440C) any day and these 4 ready.

If I get in let me know how to pay you.

Thanks
Dave

I would really like a set of scales.I profiled out my first blade just recently and I start my apprenticeship with a local knifemaker next week. Let me know how I go about getting you the funds.

Wow that is a great offer and I'd like to take you up on it. I drool over the beautiful stuff you have. Can I send money through Paypal?

Pat

I'm impressed with your generosity - I'm just getting started with the basics - I just finished putting scales on a spyderco mule. Let me know how to send you the funds.

Since I'm mentioning it, I have to show off.....
