Might just be a tad over protective of my knifemaker friends here, but are all these deals transpiring without any problems as of late ?

Mark

If someone gives you the "I'll Take it" and then tries to lowball you in an e-mail, please report this to me asap. This wastes the makers time and causes them to lose possible sales when others think the "I'll take it" was legit. I will consider this a "sassing the moderator" offense and ban the offender

I've had a few problems.

I had an "I'll take it for $60" posted in the thread, when the posted price was $75.

I had an "I'll take it" and then an email saying he'd pay $60 when the price was $85.

I had an "If you'll ship to Australia, I'd be interested in buying it" and then an email saying more or less, I'd like one with.... different specs.

I hope this thread will point out that this isn't an auction site and you can very easily derail a For Sale thread with this nonsense.

I emailed you about the one for me already with one user asking for a better deal than agreed to in the initial post.
he originaly asked me to send him the knife and he would send me the money later. (This he said was because I was a new knife maker)
then asked to send half at once then the rest later.
then offered 50 dollars less than he agreed to in the post.

this is crazy , i had this happen to, the individual, posts a reply "I'll take it", and that he was sending funds via paypal that day, the with three more e-mails , he tries to get me to not only upgrade my means of shipping (for free) but to also accept his offer of $20 when it was listed for $30. now the fact he said he'd take it, directly on the thread, would lead any viewers to believe that the piece was no longer available. now on a $30 dollar knife i wasn't real upset, but had this been a $2 or $3 hundred dollar knife, and he'd have sent potential buyers looking else where to buy, id have been highly pi$$ed.
don't wanna sound like a whiner , i am new here and all, but i got an e-mail from another maker who has had multiple issues with the exact same buyer.
thanks for looking out for us all Mark W.

From following the posts it looks like the same fella. I can say from being on some car forums you 'Blade' folk are a tolerant bunch. I'm not even a butcher, baker or candlestickmaker, but I was perturbed enough to send the guy a snide e-mail re. unsolicited lowball offers.:grumpy:

I can't believe that people try to pull this kind of crap. On a few occasions, I have PM'd the 'smith to ask if he will take a lower price, but I would never have thought to screw with the actual posting. That's downright wrong!

I've had a few of these things happen to me in the past but I can't remember who they were. I want to give a big THANK YOU to Mark Williams for looking out for us knifemakers. You're a great moderator.

See, now I'd consider that legit...either making a counteroffer or asking to ship elsewhere or upgrade shipping.

If you're willing to pay the offered price but are trying to grab it for less, anyone else can say "I'll take it" at any time while you're PMing the seller. On the flip side, if a seller is getting a bunch of offers but no "I'll take it"s then that might be a signal that he's got a desirable knife but it's a bit overpriced for the demand.
