This one's a done deal folks. #38, Jeephat, is your winner.

A good while back, I asked about Moras. I didn't own one and was curious. Without any other impetus, our own Ken C simply sent me a Mora so I could try them out. I took the gifted knife on camping trips, humped it around in my day pack for a long while, and got to know the Mora. Since then, I've bought a number of Moras myself, but I still have that knife that Ken C sent me--a stainless Mora Craftsman in olive drab (with matching olive sheath). I was going through some gear today, and I ran across that gift knife. I remembered Ken's kind gesture, and I thought about passing on the good karma.

With his permission already procured, I'm going to offer it up in a W&SS giveaway. I'll look around and find a few other items to go with it, like a survival whistle and perhaps a couple more small items. I'll post up some pics of the actual items next week.

How do you win? Just post here and include one of your favorite outdoor photos from the past year. It can be from a trip outdoors. It can be of a knife outdoors. It can be of your hot wife outdoors. Whatever. Please include at least a small note to let us know what the photo depicts and why it's special to you. That's it.

Giveaway rules: Just one photo and one entry post per person. You're welcome to chat about other folks' pictures, but those posts won't count as your entry. I'm not going to judge the pics. Based on the number of posts in the thread at selection time, I'll generate a number from random.org and try to match it to an entry post. If the number happens to hit a chat post instead, I'll go (upward in number) to the next valid entry.

You need to be of legal age to receive a knife (18), and the knife needs to be legal in your area. That's about it. Thanks to Ken C for making this one possible. Have fun with the pics and good luck.

ETA: Okay, I rummaged around in my gear box and found some more stuff. This is turning into a pretty good prize and includes the Mora, some carbon air-activated hand warmers, a NATO survival whistle, a button compass, and a few sticks of fatwood (haters need not apply :D).

Cool I'm in for the picture but count me out of the contest. I'd rather a newcomer to scandis win.

I'm not entering this contest but here's a great pic to start you off. This is my daughter Olivia walking the boardwalk at Grand Prismatic in Yellowstone National Park. This photo was selected by Fodor's to grace page 2 of their Complete Guide To The National Parks of The West 2nd Edition. Special to me because after this pic was taken Olivia says to me, "I love the outdoors".

Good luck to the potential winner. :)

I'm in.

My oldest son on one of our first hikes together. We have had many special father/son moments while learning about our surroundings together. This is the day I gave him his first knife.

This is my girlfriend Lauren, she's 19. This was her first time out. We setup a backpack, tacklebox and her little fishing pole with 6lb test on it from when she was younger. I brought her out with me and my buddy ed on a decent hike with the gear to go fishing at a great fishing spot in the middle of the woods at the end of my road. She carried her own gear and walked through even though it was hot and far. We got there and having been fishing with me many times she picked out the lure she wanted and started fishing. She attracted a large 5lb bass over to our spot, then told me to hook her a sunfish and put it on a hook for her. She threw the sunfish out, knowing not to throw it infront of the bass, and with much patience the bass grabbed the sunfish and took off. She waited to 3 then set the hook. Let me tell you, a 5lb bass on 6lb line and a light rod/small shakespeare reel setup really put her to the test. She didn't break the line nor lose the fish. I landed the fish as she jumped around rediculously for a few minutes. My buddy grabbed his cell phone and we took a few pictures. She also landed a 34" striper all by herself this year with us too, i'll post a picture if any of you want, but this picture and memory are the one i want to enter. She has since then become a serious fisherman (this being a girl that didnt like guns, bows, knives or fishing before she met me, now she wants a few knives, an air gun, took over my bb pistol and wants a bow). Jeeze! Anyways, here's the picture.

This is his girlfriend: I just wanted to add to this story that this picture and memory of this 5lb fish is very special to me because i had received terrible news the night before that my favorite uncle had passed away. Being an emotional wreck that i was that day, Chris decided to take me out and try to get my mind off everything. After the trek through the woods (on one of the HOTTEST days we had) we made it to the pond where i would usually just mess around and try to catch frogs. This day i decided i was going to show up the boys and get a fish by myself. (Of course NOT touching worms or the fish i managed to catch) I was walking around the edge of the pond when i happen to notice the million sun fish chasing my lure along with a much bigger fish! I set my eye on it and after about 30 min. of me trying to track it down and fool it out of the weeds i finally landed it! Now, my uncle that just passed away loved fishing and would have been so proud of this fish. I know he was looking down on me that day, and made me catch that great fish. Not to mention, do you see the mouth on that thing!! :)

Thanks for the contest. I really don't need another Mora, but I want to throw up a picture anyway. There are some very, very good entries already.

Here's a shot from camp at Island Lake in the Wind River Range of Wyoming. One of the guys packed in a freaking frisbee. We ended up using it quite a bit after changing the route from a loop to a base camp/dayhike route.

Thanks for the chance, Merry Christmas & congrats on the 28k.I don't have a mora yet,so if I happen to win I'll be able to see why everyone loves them so much.
My pic is from my favorite camp site.
There's nothing like a fire at the end of the day, just sitting & listening to the owls hoot & other night sounds.

Thanks for the opportunity!
Nice Bass & great story.

Wow...28K...thanks a lot for your contribution! Thanks for the shot at winning this knife with its background!

This was taken last fall, on a solitaire 5 days hiking trip in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, at sunset, from the top of Mont Foster. Of all the pics I brought back from this trip, this one captures "the moment" the best for me.

Thanks again and best of luck to you and all the participants!

This a memorable moment for me, my girls practicing firecraft, under Dad's supervision, of course. I like it because this time out, it was effortless for my girls to get a spark to take. Love'em much

This is from an ice storm we had in Jan of 09. It is taken at the airport where I am based, and I just thought it came closest to what my minds eye was trying to envisionthe pic to be.

A hawk with a squirrel he'd just caught. Took this down around Mobile last year just before Mardi Gras.

I'll generate a number from random.org and try to match it to an entry post. If the number happens to hit a chat post instead, I'll go (upward in number) to the next valid entry.

If you do it that way a post that's followed by 9 chat posts is 10x more likely to win than a post that's followed by an entry post. That would give a great advantage to people who post late in the thread when there's more chat going on. I suggest you draw another number instead.

I was senior advisor for our BSA Philmont crew this year. The boys in the crew were all musicians, so they decided to carry a mando, guitar, uke and two harmonicas on the trek. Even though this added up to 7 lbs (mando in hard case) to one of the boys' packs, this was the best decision ever. We had a great time, the boys would break out the instruments at every stop and play, sometimes the counselors would bring out their guitar or banjo or whatever and they'd all jam.

This is a shot atop the Tooth Of Time, on our 12th day there. Makes me want to be there right now...

What? And put the onus on myself to keep choosing numbers?!

I really don't anticipate that much chat, nor do I expect folks to abuse the system, but if that's how it works out (ie. if people start chatting up a storm), I'll consider a rule revision. Same is true if one poster prefaces his entry post with fifteen un-separated chat posts. :p

If it's just the occasional chat post, I'll leave it like it is. Otherwise, the winner may be determined by a bourbon induced dream that I code numerically, summing the various numerical equivalents of dream elements and then dividing by pi to determine a winner. Cougar, feel free to graph this determining strategy if you like.

And BTW, efahl thanks you. :p

ETA: The current set-up, if left unchanged and unabused, might make for interesting strategery--guys chomping at the bit to post their photos but waiting diligently for a chat post to pop up so they can raise their chances. Like right now... I bet some member is racing to post after me because he knows that it could mean sweet Mora goodness. :D
