Attention! Sharpening alert! DMT D8XX!

I've considered trying to build a 75 degree jig for stones, to use like a Sharpmaker, i.e. slicing straight down. Have you tried anything like that?? Has anybody here??

I try but found that there is not to much difference moving knife vertically then horizontally. It is same as eating soup with spoon :) - same skills. Also you can really see what is going on.

In general it is same as free hand but for someone new to that it really really help. Now I more skilled an dmanage to maupulate angle, but I get used to this base and it is just more comfortable to use and observe...

Of course if you put this stand vertically you will have your 75 degree if you want...

Thanks, Vassili.

Thanks, Vassilli,

My son has some scraps of Red Oak, and a chop saw. I think I'll ask him to help me out with this project.

WOW Those look great! It's hard to tell the ones had serrations, and you didn't scar the black coating. And those Rats look spooky sharp! Nice work!

This is 11.05"x2.5" diamond stone and leather glued to Ebony on 15 degree stand I use for sharpening.

Vassili, thank you for the photos. :)

The wood blocks... do you put it with the big end closest to you, and move the blade towards you?

It seems that the DMT is really worth the price. It looks like you use only diamond stones?

Sorry about all the questions. :D

I always pushing away from me. With diamond stones small end is close to me and edge looking away. Whith leather loaded with powder I have big end closes to me and edge looking at me.

I also use leather glued to hard wood loaded with diamond powder ( you may see it on the picture on first page). And MDF loaded with diamond powder. Right now I am trying to use only diamond stones, but not convinced yet that there is no need in polishing on leather.

Sorry about all the questions. :D

This is what this forum for to ask questions.

Thanks, Vassili.

But you prefer this to waterstones?

Now I think I have heard from both "extremes"; I heard from Ben/EdgePro about diamonds,:D thombrogan likes DMT but moves on to waterstones, and you and ashtxsniper seem to prefer diamonds.

It is fast and cleaner and easy to use. I also have water-stones, but it is just too messy and with some blades - like bulat, it rust right on your eyes if you forget to wipe water out.

Thanks, Vassili.
