Attmepting my first solo knife hopefully WIP C&C's welcome

Wait a minute.... Aldo has time to work on knives  That blade is a lot prettier than Aldo :)

Were you forging on the big Sea Robin? I helped load that thing and it was a bear!

Aldo's good people.

I think the only reason he got some time to work on knives was because I hounded him for a while be able to swing by his place. So he probably just agreed so I would leave him a lone for a while. :D

Matt,

That's not at all true. You're welcome any time. Will I'm not to sure about;).

Hey Will . You going to Tannahill this May?

Shipped my other knife back to Stacy for it to get the HT done. Luckily I got this one started a few weeks ago otherwise I would feel lost tonight with nothing to do. Did some more work on this, I cleaned it up a bit and re worked the tang if you compare it to the pic on page one you can see the difference. Looking at it more now I realize I basically hate the choil. It's too big. Truth be told when I originally did it in haste I didn't get a chainsaw file and instead used a small round file I had.

I am liking the tang though it's fitting very nicely in my hand at the moment but I still have more work to do there.

Alright well with the exception of a few more passes with 220 this knife is ready for HT. I also started working on sanding down the one I forged up at Aldo's a little while back and that should sand up fairly quick, it's a smaller knife. With a little luck I can hook up with Aldo and get the HT done on both of them in one shot in the next weekend or two. If time permits I may also get a chance to bang on what will hopefully be a bowie knife at his shop too.

My joint one I was working on with Stacy was sent back shortly before Christmas and is still in his care. The joint knife will take precedence over this one once I get it back, but in the meantime I'm becoming a knife making fool :p.

I went and picked up a deer mount from my taxidermist and discuss a mount I wanted to do on something I dropped of to him a few months back. And while talking with him I mentioned I started making knives. Turns out he's a knife nut and asked if I can make him a bird and trout knife. I told him sure, once I get a few knives under my belt and I think I have a clue as to what I'm doing :D.

Here is is nearly finished with 220 grit. Also you can see I took the hump that was in the handle down a bit from the previous picture and ripped a few more holes in it.

Fletch, The knife is sitting in a foil packet, waiting for it to rise above freezing in the shop. The forecast is for the temps to get into the upper 30's and low 40's this week, so now that most of the Holiday craziness is over, I should HT it this Saturday. With an overnight cryo into Sunday, hopefully it will be back on its way to you this time next week.
Stacy

Isn't the waiting the hardest part? Even though we know these guys are doing everything to help out. I am waiting for mine to come back too, but I know they are i the mail as I type this:D

Well luckily I've been stocking up on steel so worst case scenario is I just keep making blanks and putting the bevels on them and sanding... Eventually they'll get finished :D
