I'm looking to possibly obtain an AK Bowie for use as a camp knife. I refuse to pay the price for a Busse.

Has anyone used this knife for general camp chores and would care to share with the rest of the class?

Uses would be:

- shelter building.
- food preparation.
- wood splitting.
- last ditch defence.

Thanks for your time in advance.

D, the guys are spot on except IMHO the AK Bowie is too big and awkward for some types of food preparation but if you're like 99.99% of the rest of us you're gonna have more than one knife along anyway.:) ;)

Somewhere in the mass of posts I've made here on BFC the last ten years there's a review I did on the AK Bowie I once had... But to save you the task of trying to look it up, the gist of the review is that the AK Bowie beat all the smaller knives it was compared too hands down in the area of heavy work.
Its outstanding accomplishment that day was when I cut either 5/16" or 3/8" carriage bolt in two with the AK Bowie and a large vise.  :D
Of course the edge deformed and was rolled/crushed back into the edge with no loss of material.
But after a short workout with the Chakma/Chakmak I was able too work out the deformity and bring back the edge too shaving sharp!!!
All in all a very excellent capable camp knife!  :D
