I just purchased this little beauty from a fellow forumite and just wanted to tell you what a quality piece it is. This little guy really "walks and talks". In my opinion it is a much finer knife than the available "Mini-Police", (which I own and admit is a better necklace piece but mainly because it's smaller and thinner). This thing really exudes quality. The only negative thing I can say about it is that the latter Spyders are much sharper, including the "Mini-Police".
Is this knife one of your first miniatures and where did the name "Spyderkey" come from? Also, can I send it to you and have you folks really put a "hair popping" edge on it? Thanks you guys.

Gene - Thanx for tyhe kind words. The Spyderkey name came from the Sales manager at the time. It was expected that it would be carried on a key chain with keys, hence the name. We later changed the name to "Hummingbirds", but ultimately had to give them up due to the very high cost to make them.

We'd be happy to sharpen it for you. If have a 204 Sharpmaker, you could probably do a good job yourself. The steel is AUS8.

Gene,

If I'm not mistaken what you have is exactly the same knife that when mated to a neat clip was dubbed the Tie Clip-It. You know how I feel about those

I'm intrigued... could someone post a photo of the Spyderkey? I'd like to see how it looks.

thanks,
clay.

Sal,
As always, thanks for the input. It still amazes me that one can get info from the "Prez" of the best knife company in the world. This piece is the most quality miniature of yours I've seen to date. I'm lucky that I snapped it up. Sal, as Bob said, "Where's the "Tie-Clips". We're waiting to snap those up also. One last thing Sal. I know Golden, Co. is beautiful but you being a former Shasta County resident, (I live in Dunsmuir), you know the fishing here is THE BEST! If you're ever up this way, let me know and we'll fry some trout.

Clay,
Go to the "Photos Of Tie-Clips" thread in this forum. Costas put up some pictures of almost the exact knife with stag scales. The "Spyderkey" I have has smooth stainless scales instead of stag.

Gene - Thanx for the kind words and offer. I had a Hapkido instructor that lived in Dunsmuir back in the early 70's. Very nice area.

This should help a little. I saw this picture on Ebay a while back and I REALLY wish I had bought it.

Chad,
Thanks for posting the picture. Yeah, that's it. Like I said, I'm glad I snapped it up, (thank you Matt). As I told Sal, it is really of superior quality, (the Mini-Police is good but this is GREAT)! Sorry you missed out. I now want to get one with the stag scales. I was always a Spyderco fan but as Bald1 said, I wish I would have taken advantage of all the great stuff Sal's company produced in the eighties and early nineties.

Sal,
Thanks always for your input. And I don't care where it is, there's no place prettier than the Dunsmuir/Mt.Shasta area.

Gene -Do the Monarch butterflies still fly through Mt Shasta? I remember riding motorcycles up there one year and there were so many Monarchs migrating that we had to stop riding...couldn't see to ride.

sal

Yes Sal, they sure do. In fact a lot of them stay here for the summer months. I ride a bike also and it's motorcycle nirvana up here. When you ride though, you'd better keep your mouth closed!
